Player votes - to round 6
RodneyRegis (IP Logged)

Since it's time for a break int he AP and we've now played a quarter of the season, here are the results so far of the cumulative player votes from DOK's surveys.

A minimum of 2 starts to avoid anomolies.

LEAGUE TABLE
Row Labels Apps Points
 Marcus Smith	6	81
 Danny Care	6	64
 Marland Yarde	6	63
 Joe Marchant	6	62
 Chris Robshaw	5	60
 Jack Clifford	6	56
 Charlie Walker	4	48
 Dave Ward	5	37
 Joe Marler	4	28
 Jamie Roberts	6	27
 Mike Brown	4	26
 Mat Luamanu	4	24
 James Horwill	3	24
 Tim Visser	2	18
 Aaron Morris	2	18
 George Merrick	5	18
 C. Matthews	2	17
 Will Collier	3	14
 Ben Glynn	2	12
 Mark Lambert	2	11
 Kyle Sinckler	3	9
 Rob Buchanan	2	6

I give each player a score based on his relative vote - so 1 for the lowest vote up to 15 for the highest, with an extra 2 for the "man of the match", so 17.

We certainly appear to prefer the backs. Yarde had a great start but has suffered from poor relative scores in the last 2 matches.

"POINTS PER MATCH"
  Marcus Smith	6	81	13.5
 Chris Robshaw	5	60	12.0
 Charlie Walker	4	48	12.0
 Danny Care	6	64	10.7
 Marland Yarde	6	63	10.5
 Joe Marchant	6	62	10.3
 Jack Clifford	6	56	9.3
 Aaron Morris	2	18	9.0
 Tim Visser	2	18	9.0
 C. Matthews	2	17	8.5
 James Horwill	3	24	8.0
 Dave Ward	5	37	7.4
 Joe Marler	4	28	7.0
 Mike Brown	4	26	6.5
 Mat Luamanu	4	24	6.0
 Ben Glynn	2	12	6.0
 Mark Lambert	2	11	5.5
 Will Collier	3	14	4.7
 Jamie Roberts	6	27	4.5
 George Merrick	5	18	3.6
 Kyle Sinckler	3	9	3.0
 Rob Buchanan	2	6	3.0

Obviously the total score is all well and good, but not fair to compare a player with 6 starts to one with 5. So these are the poitns per match. No surprise to see who is sneaking up behind Smith.

AVERAGE SCORE

Row Labels	Starts Rank	Average Mode MOTM Points
 Marcus Smith	6	2.8	4.06	4	1	81.0
 Chris Robshaw	5	4.0	3.98	4	0	60.0
 Charlie Walker	4	4.0	3.86	4	0	48.0
 Danny Care	6	5.7	3.73	4	1	64.0
 Joe Marchant	6	6.0	3.72	4	1	62.0
 Aaron Morris	2	7.0	3.70	4	0	18.0
 Marland Yarde	6	6.2	3.68	4	2	63.0
 Tim Visser	2	7.0	3.65	4	0	18.0
 Jack Clifford	6	7.0	3.61	4	1	56.0
 C. Matthews	2	7.5	3.57	4	0	17.0
 Dave Ward	5	8.6	3.48	3	0	37.0
 Mat Luamanu	4	10.0	3.45	4	0	24.0
 James Horwill	3	8.0	3.44	3	0	24.0
 Joe Marler	4	9.0	3.41	4	0	28.0
 Mike Brown	4	9.5	3.33	4	0	26.0
 George Merrick	5	12.4	3.17	3	0	18.0
 Jamie Roberts	6	11.5	3.11	3	0	27.0
 Mark Lambert	2	10.5	3.10	3	0	11.0
 Will Collier	3	11.3	3.01	3	0	14.0
 Kyle Sinckler	3	13.0	2.96	3	0	9.0
 Ben Glynn	2	10.0	2.81	3	0	12.0
 Rob Buchanan	2	13.0	2.46	2	0	6.0

These are the average scores for each player. They should be read witht he caveat that a player in a game we win will usually getter a better score than a player performing just as well in a losing cause. For that reason I've also produced ranks which show how a player generally performs compared with his peers. So for example Robshaw is on average the 4th best player:

RANKS

Row Labels	Starts Rank
 Marcus Smith	6	2.8
 Charlie Walker	4	4.0
 Chris Robshaw	5	4.0
 Danny Care	6	5.7
 Joe Marchant	6	6.0
 Marland Yarde	6	6.2
 Jack Clifford	6	7.0
 Aaron Morris	2	7.0
 Tim Visser	2	7.0
 C. Matthews	2	7.5
 James Horwill	3	8.0
 Dave Ward	5	8.6
 Joe Marler	4	9.0
 Mike Brown	4	9.5
 Mat Luamanu	4	10.0
 Ben Glynn	2	10.0
 Mark Lambert	2	10.5
 Will Collier	3	11.3
 Jamie Roberts	6	11.5
 George Merrick	5	12.4
 Rob Buchanan	2	13.0
 Kyle Sinckler	3	13.0

And finally here's a score and vote matrix to show how each player performed in each game:

VOTE MATRIX

This is interesting. Thank you.

I doubt we will ever get to see it, but I'd expect JK and the coaches to have something similar, albeit with more complexity.

sorry but this is fundamentally flawed data...

....we all know there are two Robshaws on the pitch so you need to adjust accordingly.

Well, at least his average will be stable for a while.

He's still ridiculously popular on superbru's championship cup fantasy game, clearly by people who don't watch him play.

I'm amazed that Brown has scored so well...I fear he has been way below his best this season, prior to injury....

Mike had a shocker against Irish, then was excellent against Gloucester. Run of the mill in the other 2 games he's played. Certainly nowhere near the heights of a couple of seasons ago, but I daresay had we been doing these then he and robshaw would be so far ahead of everyone else it would already be a 2 horse race.
