I'll tell you what Jamie, up your average yardage to 3 per match and we'll think about it.

I think he's done better recently and has done a good job of First Guard for young Smith

I think he's payed well this season sometimes i think we expect him to burst the D line everytime he handles the ball.

He has done better this season but from a pretty low starting point. I believe he is also our defensive captain, so not sure that aspect of his role can be classed as a success. I appreciate that he is not at fault for the defensive lapses of others.

Has anyone worked out our defensive system apart from we don't have one. It's certainly not drift or out to in. It looks more like do you own thing and hope for the 1st up tackle to be effective. So probably more to do with that that him being D captain.

No, just now and again.

i think that's unfair this year, I think he's having a good season. I've not seen a moment where I think he's the one who's missed a tackle in our bad defence moments, and he's carried with real aggression and disrupted a lot in the line.

Part of Roberts' effectiveness is that he will often take more than one defender to stop him. So he may not break the gainline, but he will stretch the opposition defence.

All well and good if he offloads.

Most of the teams we've played against.

This line gets trotted out all the time but I just don't think it's that true anymore. Or more to the point, loads of trams now adopt a double tackle on most players, so Roberts attracting two defenders is not unique to him. I'm not sure he's necessarily got worse, but the game has moved on

Well quite. Unless he offload its simply 2 defenders to slow the ball down immediately. I'm all for tying up defenders, but if the ball goes to ground it has no real advantage. As t-bone says, half of our problems in attack last season were due to players lumbering into double tackles and getting held up, isolated, turned over or generally slowing down the ball.
