HARLEQUINS TEAM TO PLAY SARACENS
Friday, 3rd November 2017 @ 12:00

HARLEQUINS HAS ANNOUNCED THE SQUAD TO PLAY SARACENS IN THE OPENING ROUND OF THE ANGLO-WELSH CUP ON SUNDAY AT ALLIANZ PARK, KICK-OFF 15:00 (LIVE ON BT SPORT).

Blending youth with experience, James Chisholm will captain the side from the back-row.

Chisholm is joined in the forward pack with Lewis Boyce and Dino Lamb, who will make their starting debuts for the Club.

In the backline Harry Sloan makes his first senior appearance since May 2015, having recovered from a knee injury which kept him out last season.

Ross Chisholm and James Lang also make their first appearances of the season, at full back and inside centre respectively.

Among the replacements, first year Academy members John Okafor and Gabriel Ibitoye will look to make their debuts for Harlequins.

Speaking ahead of the match, Harlequins Head Coach, Mark Mapletoft, said: “Sunday provides a fantastic opportunity for a lot of our players who haven’t made many starts this year, in both Europe and the Aviva Premiership, and for those who played well in the A team game last Sunday.

“Saracens are a formidable side, they are the benchmark in England and we will need to be at our best to get the right result on Sunday.”

That's a really good team for this competition and taking in to account our injury list.

I'm glad that I bought a ticket now.

Your 797 senior caps vs. our 350 within the squad...

I hope our kids can give you a game. (Sm151)

Strong front row for sarries. Pacey backlines.

The fact that out lot have so much more senior experience is rather more testament to your squad size & quality, and our perpetual injury woes I fear.

Over half of our caps are with Matthews, Lambert, Chisholm and Walker. Lambert has over 1/4 of the caps himself!Matthews has over twice as many caps as the rest of the pack put together.

Decent looking back line. Not so much with the forwards

I think a "normal" amount for this season. Also ordinarily, you might expect to see both Lozowski and Isiekwe in that team but they're with England.

Tbh it's a decent side but then I thought that last week against a Quins side who I wasn't familiar with at all and you had a good win. Hope it will be a good game but that at home we can redress the balance!

You may have seen some of these with England u20s in the past but I'd recommend you keep an eye on Crossdale for his pace, Malins for his all round game and Conlon for his power. However the stand out for this crop for me is the captain and no 8 Ben Earl. Mobile and intelligent back rower.

Shaping up to be a competitive game on Sunday.

This should be a very good game and so many good young players on show.

Really excited to see Ibitoye play as i think he is a massive talent. From our side, watch out for our captain Earl, he is very exciting and I also like both our Flankers particularly Nay who is very aggressive and also really young.

I'm excited to see Chisholm play, he was to me the third best player alongside Ewels behind Itoje and Nathan Earle in that 2014 JWC team and i hope his concussions issues are past him and he can kick on, he is a big big talent.

Lamb looks the better of the two to me, but I've not really been that impressed by Archie so far.

I think Lamb is a year older than White, which can make a big difference for forwards. Reading England U18 and U20 reports, White seems to be seen as having higher potential, but it may take a while to come through.

Neither of them looks like they've filled out to their adult shape unlike, say, Baby Chis (who was already a bit of a monster as an 18 year old).

To be fair they did the same with Horwill and then it turned out he hadn’t passed concussion protocols.

Wasn't expecting that many changes:

HARLEQUINS HAS MADE A NUMBER OF CHANGES AHEAD OF THIS AFTERNOON’S ANGLO-WELSH OPENER AGAINST SARACENS AT ALLIANZ PARK, KICK-OFF 15:00 (LIVE ON BT SPORT).

Phil Swainston has failed a late fitness test on a back injury. Josh McNulty makes his first start for the Club, at tighthead prop, as Josh Ibuanokpe now provides cover from the replacements.

Captain James Chisholm has taken a knock and has been withdrawn from the squad. Ben Glynn moves to blindside flanker, with George Merrick coming into the second row. Matt Luamanu will now provide cover for the back row.

Scrum-half Charlie Mulchrone will captain the side.

In the backs, Ross Chisholm and Charlie Walker have also failed fitness tests. Tim Visser is named at full-back, as Gabriel Ibitoye makes his senior debut for Harlequins. Calum Waters is brought in as cover on the bench.

Harlequins Team
15. Tim Visser
14. Gabriel Ibitoye
13. Harry Sloan
12. James Lang
11. Alofa Alofa
10. Tim Swiel

I'd feel better about this if we'd gone:

15. Tim Swiel
14. Gabriel Ibitoye
13. Alofa Alofa
12. Harry Sloan
11. Henry Cheeseman
10. James Lang
9. Charlie Mulchrone (C)

1. Lewis Boyce
2. Elia Elia
3. Josh McNulty
4. George Merrick
5. Charlie Matthews
6. Ben Glynn
7. Archie White
8. Dino Lamb

16. Charlie Piper
17. Mark Lambert
18. Josh Ibuanokpe
19. John Okafor
20. Mat Luamanu
21. Dave Lewis
22. Tim Visser
23. Calum Waters

Maybe we've given up on the idea of Lang as a 10.

Very much second best so far although a great try and a great start from Boyce, although that scrum was very worrying. Promising combo between Lang and Sloan as well.

Somewhat unsurprisingly Sarries look organised and we look a bit more random. Partly understandable due to the number of late changes but we’re going to need individual brilliance to win this as we look pretty disorganised as a unit.

Yep really struggling today but he’s putting himself about in defence at least.

We’re lucky Sarries have been imprecise so far otherwise it could be done already.

And as I type that they score a try with 3 missed tackles after we failed to find touch.

Well, apart from those two and Lansdown at Bristol, the other owners tend to be in the shadows on game days. Not saying that's a goo or bad thing, but the only time I enjoy seeing Craigs's face on TV is when Bath have lost!

Thats because Sarries are totally dominating this game. Were lucky to be only 16-5 down. Pack getting absolutely mullered. Agree with Lang & Sloan but with no ball at all, its impossible for them. Didnt expect anything else though. Just get out of here without further injuries!

Swiel has got to break his habit of following the ball after he passes. The playmaker has to read where the ruck is going to be and drop back into a position to receive the ball.

I hope Swiel isn't badly injured.

Who's captain now?

The ref seems to be ignoring hands on the floor at breakdowns

Sloan definitely looks like he's eager to get back into the game.

Okay, I now think the ref is blind. One roll for Matthews is a double movement?!?!?
