Big games for a few players.

Slade probably needs to give up hope of playing 10 for England so this is a big chance for him at 12. Nice that we keep the continuity of a creative 12.

Huge game for Underhill. Would be great if England could finally uncover a proper 7 (and allow both Robshaws to get on with what they do at 6.)

Will be good to see Curry getting a run out, and Lozowski and Roko will be exciting as well.

But it looks a good solid England team. Just a shame really that this round of tests looks quite uninspiring.

For the first time in ages I think Danny merited a start ahead of Ben Youngs. I guess familiarity of half-back pairing for club and country favours Youngs, but Danny has played with real pace and creativity this season, he's defensively better and his old weakness (box kicking) is much improved

Slade is far more creative than the limited Farrell, he's quicker, got better hands on the ball and can cross-kick the ball unlike golden boy. He won't get the chance to show this as he needs a run of games in the 12 shirt to bed in there for England. No matter how well he plays in this one game he'll probably be back on the bench or in Exeter the following week.

He might be at 13 next week but good to know that you can read Eddie's mind as to what he will do.

Well thankfully you are not the head coach of Sarries or England as the limited Farrell has only won two european cups, 3 prem titles and 2 straight six nations title. Oh he was also picked to start for the lions in all 3 tests in NZ but i guess you know better than all the coaches watching from your sofa

With respect to Slade I think it's more that EJ want's 3 players for each position in the run up to the RWC except that at 12 it could be 6 players for that position ie 3 ball players and 3 bash it up the middle players, depending on what type of game he wants to play. I guess in reality it'll be a perm of 3/4 players for 12 and Slade's getting a runout there to see how he goes. Just my thoughts and not looking to touch any nerves ;-)

That aside, my first thought on the side was how small the backline is in stature.

Sam Simmonds replaces Curry on the bench as he picked up a knock in training today.

Good opportunity for Sam.

Saying Farrell is limited is pretty churlish to be honest.

Maybe he's not the flamboyant fly half that many like to see (more like Ford and Slade) but he's certainly got an eye for a gap and has started more than his fair share of attacks. He's also able to play the territory game excellently (which lots of 10s can't) and he's been more than effective at 12, so to say he's limited just seems wrong.

Farrell is a top quality player, no doubt about it. Has certainly made strides in his attacking game in the last few years and is a top top competitor.

Calm down. Do you wait for people to say something negative about a Sarries player and then go and jump on it? I don't know why reactions have to be so extreme these days.

I think that's a bit harsh - did you read the post he was responding to? Barnetsarrie12 has always been pretty reasonable on here as far as I remember.

Thanks Brown Bottle, I try to be as fair as possibly can be, I am slightly biased of course towards sarries but i taught the comment that he was very limited was just factually not true as he would not keep on being picked for all the teams he is picked for.

Some players develop a perception and it never fits reality, Farrell developed a reputation as a somewhat limited player when he first started playing which was very young and it has stuck to him even though he has made great strides and he is as good as anyone at taking the ball to the line now and he makes very good decisions, the growth in our attack at sarries has been down to the growth of Faz at 10 more than anything.

DaveL, go back and read the thread and tell me where i was being extreme.

Against the top teams itís clear that Faz thinks too slowly for a great ten. Which is why he makes an effective twelve. For the Lions, they lost with him at ten and drew and won with him at twelve. Even at Sarries he has Goode to come in as the playmaker when they are under pressure.

It would be interesting to see how many games against the top three SH teams England have won where Faz has started and the game has been ahead with him at fly half.

Faz tackles very well and kicks very well but canít tcup.

Fair enough, yes I did BB. Itís an old and outdated stereotype of Farrell. I actually agree Barnetsarrieís point about Farrell as a player. I also get that players have unfair reputations. Heard enough of it about Robshaw over the years. I just personally donít tend to let it bug me but fair play (Sm128)

Think Clearly Under Pressure. He has a good brain but when the going gets tough itís clear he (Faz) will drop much deeper than say Ford and so requires someone to come into fly half such as Goode for club, not so useful at international level.
