Team for next week
Fursty (IP Logged)

I think next week's team probably picks itself given the number of injuries we have, something like:

15. Chisholm
14. Visser
13. Saili
12. Roberts/Lang
11. Alofa
10. Smith
9. ?????

1. Lambert
2. Elia
3. McNulty
4. Horwill
5. Matthews/Glynn
6. Chisholm
7. Ward (Is he back from suspension?)
8. Luamanu

16. Piper
17. Boyce
18. Ibuanokpe
19. Matthews/Glynn
20. White
21. ?????
22. Lang
23. Sloan

That's my pick, but I'm struggling to see any option but to bring in loan players to cover the half-backs unless we use someone way out of position...

I thought Walker was injured - otherwise yes agree he should start over Alofa.

I think we may well see Visser at FB again and Walker and Alofa on the wings.

I do not think RC is ready to start yet.

Knowing our luck at the moment we'll pick up another 5 injuries between now and naming the team on Friday.

I think we'll just have to try and get 15 players on the pitch and just use it as an exercise in damage limitation.

Based on what i have seen this season so far, i just can't see how Ward gets a start on the flank, I like the guy, think he a really decent pro, has lots of attributes, but he has not made a single impact in this position this season. Better to go with one of the young guns...

The key will be lock - if Merrick, Matthews and Horwill are fit then that allows for Glyn to be back row.
Glyn, Luamanu and Chisholm, is a pretty heavy back row that can at least get through some work.

I think Lewis was kept back for the Exeter game, so he will start with Smith at FH.

Bit pointless guessing as we have no idea who is fit, but.................

Lambert
Elia
Collier
Horwill
Merrick
Glynn
Chisholm jnr
Luamanu
??
Smith
Visser
Lang
Sloan
Alofa
Chisholm snr

Boyce
Mayhew
Mcnulty
Matthews
Ward
??
Cheeseman
Ibitoye

We know for certain the following are out

Mulchrone
Care
Robshaw
Brown
Marler (now he has been named I would be surprised if Jones did not bench him)
Sinckler
Swiel
The Cat

The maybes are

Roberts (only called up as injury cover)
Salli
Marchant (I think he said he is due next week against Bath but you never know)
Waters
Saunders
Lewis (Club said he was injured last week)
Bothma (due back anytime now)
Clifford (as above)
Swainston
Walker

I would be surprised to see Smith at 9. He may end up as the cover but if we are without all our SH I expect we will get someone in from the Champ/Nat 1 even.

Max said that he was back in training and hopefully back for Chiefs game.
Marchant was in the King's bar yesterday and to my expert medical eye looked fine.

I think NLB's comments on Dave Ward are a bit harsh. I for one am very pleased he will be available and expect him to play at 7. Wardy picks great running lines, scores tries and is good over the ball. Having had a rest I hope he comes out firing. Chis at 6 and Luamanu at 8 with Boathma (hopefully) on the bench. In the circumstances, not a bad back row at all!

Having said that, perhaps they will play him at 2 with Elia on the bench.

Regarding Elia, I hope he starts. Can't remember anyone complaining about our lineout since he stepped in........

Agree Elia's lineups throwing has been very good.

If Kitto goes straight into the squad that gives us a few options, particularly if we get Smith and Roberts back from international duty.

When will we know whether those two will be available?

Given that Davies is out for 6 months, I don't think Roberts will be back.

Re: Team for next week
HonkyTonk (IP Logged)

I would say Roberts is unlikely now as Davies has been ruled out of the 6N altogether

Re: Team for next week

Yup just seen that Davies is out for the foreseeable, so that's Roberts out for the next three weeks.

So presumably we now go with Sloan at 12 and Marchant at 13, with Lang at 10, with Smith to come in at 10 if available, and everyone shifting across if Marchant isn't fit.

I would expect Smith to start at 10. There is also the possb that salli could be back, or Walker is back and Alofa can then move to 13

Still not convinced about Alofa at centre, particularly considering he now seems to be finding his feet a bit more on the wing.

But yeah will really depend on who is available from Marchant, Saili and Sloan (or Roberts).

Agree about Alofa, was just going through the options. I think it was mentioned on here but I wouldnt mind seeing Cheeseman have a go at centre. Not convinced from the little I have seen of him on the wing (which may be unfair).

Rather have Sloan at 12 than Roberts anyway.

Presumably we'll name a team, several will get crocked in captain's run or fail a late fitness test, then several more out with long term injuries during the game.

Would like to see Elia starting hooker and if Ward is backrow or backrow cover on the bench, then we may see Mayhew on the bench ahead of Piper.
