We're doing some good things, but we've had 90% of the possession and we're losing by 5. Doesn't bode well for the second half if Sarries get their act together and stop giving us penalties.

Elia looked like he'd scored, but no review. Towards the end the assistant ref calls a penalty but the ref ignored him. I wonder if things will ever actually go our way?

He got the ball down but it definitely wasn't immediate. I think too much time had elapsed between hitting the deck and grounding the ball - not convinced the referee would have given it even if he'd seen it.

Great result; not celebrated so loud since the same fixture last year.
Pretty much bossed the game in terms of possession and territory could have won by more. Sarries fortunate not to have a yellow given the amount of penalties given away in the 1st half.

Echo that. Given that he's hardly played in some time, and he put in a full 80 today, I think he's going to prove to be a good signing. Very abrasive and really gets stuck in. His clash with Collier made me think back to Big Mo "bumping into" JTH and putting him out for about 4 weeks! As COS said at the time "we try and coach the players not to run into Mo"...

10 minutes ago I was so so angry with that nonsense high tackle that led to the try . But now Im a bit calmer and realise that it would would be shameful if Saracens had won that match. I mean if we had won that match. we were outplayed all over the pitch Im afraid . Fairplay to harlequins, although it sticks in my throat to say so. You deserved to win

What a win. Really impressive with the effort, commitment and intensity, and also the patience to go through so many phases without handing the ball back.

All of the forwards put in a huge shift, and Care and Lang ran the game well. Delighted with that. Really need to see that level of intensity every week though

Yes it was a bit brief... but I think that's always the case with matches late on the Sunday, since they don't have much time to edit a full highlights reel before broadcast.

Having watched the game back, just to make sure we really did win again, I can see why the players were so upset about Elia's try being dismissed. The TMO would have clearly shown the score. Luckily we won and it didn't matter much for once.

Only if you include Quins final try which has some questions attached to it. If the first was given, maybe the second might not have been.

or maybe it would have woken Sarries from their slumbers and they would have gone on to dominate possession and territory, not giving us another sniff at their try line.
And JK would have resigned. And Deano would return. And wed win the league and the Champions cup next season.....

It's optimistic to say it cost a BP as if it had been awarded then everything would have been different. It's still wrong that a perfectly good try wasn't given because Sir wouldn't go to the TMO, again.

Skelton being pinged for a high tackle gave the penalty that enabled Lang to get us a lineout 10m or so from their line. I think the TMO called it a high tackle, which was a bit ridiculous.

I think this is slightly academic as there was another penalty straight after that one anyway.
I got the feeling while watching the game that there was a lot being played under "advantage" - certainly 2 of the tries and possibly even the second try. I also wondered if the last try might have been a penalty try if Visser hadn't scored as the Goode attempted one-hand take may have been seen as a deliberate knock on.

I'd like to think not - it was pretty clear he was making an attempt to catch the ball, so it would have been incredibly harsh to give a penalty try for that. I've always found it a bit odd that, if you go with one hand, you're automatically assumed by referees to be attempting to slap it down. You see one-handed interceptions (and takes in open play) all the time.

There was a deliberate knock-on a couple of phases later, so didn't make a huge difference.

Well the difference it made was giving us an attacking lineout well inside their 22!

I'm not sure that there would have been much difference in where it was relative to the 22 - However, the lineout would have been on the other side of the pitch - which would have made some big differences:
1. The try scorer would likely have been Walker rather than Visser.
2. Walker would probably be MoM
3. Walker would probably be the play of the month for November.
and, most importantly
4. In the "all you can eat Nandos" competition between Walker and Visser, Visser would need to score a lot of tries to catch up.

I think the point is that if Skelton hadn't been pinged, a pen for the deliberate knock on would still have given us the opportunity to take that lineout.

Yes, from memory, the distance from the halfway line was similar - the only real difference was that the penalty was closer to the left wing than the "high tackle" which was closer to the right wing - therefore, Lang would probably have aimed towards the left rather than to the right.

But, either way, we have had so many 50/50 reffing decisions go against us this season (and I view the high tackle as a 50/50 as it "looked" high from where I sit), that it is probably time that a 50/50 did go our way.
Even in this game, we saw some 50/50s not go our way - for instance the Elia Elia "try" or the lack of yellow cards.

Elia's try was 100%, it's just it wasn't given.
