Great idea let us get rid of Joe and Sick get PDJ back maybe we could partner PDJ with Graham Norton then we would be a nice club with nice little players

As long as they don’t throw away matches I’d be happy

Is there still nothing on why Joe was complaining to the ref about his bloodied ear just before the incident. I thought he said that he had been punched and the ref said that nothing was found. Was it who had punched him that Joe stupidly retaliated against.

Ioane has now been cited for striking Joe with his arm

Seems like Joe kept the lid on it for 5 mins anyway ...

Joe should be wise enough by now not to take his revenge right under the refs nose.

If at first you don't succeed, Try, Try and Try again.

Well, if that's the only alternative then we should probably keep them.

This was the most stupid thing about it.

You would have thought with all his indiscretions Joe would at least have learnt to be a bit more cloak and dagger about it.

To just steam in like that right in front of the ref is the equivalent of walking into a jewelers and saying to the proprietor "you see this £10,000 ring? I am now taking it and will be walking out without paying. By the way how are the kids?"

Norton may be worth a look, but no thanks to June Porno-Salad.

I can understand Joe's frustration if he's asked the referee to look at an incident and the ref seems not interested. That doesn't excuse what he did but it perhaps explains his lack of rationale. It does also hark back to my post elsewhere that suggests that refs need to be seen to be more consistent at least in their approach. Joe was clearly bleeding from a head wound; that alone would make it worth a look. Maybe the TMO did, that much is unclear; but if he did, it would be good to tell the player that, rather than just "I didn't see anything".

1. Joe was monumentally silly to do that at all, let alone in front of the ref. It was a straight red and he will get what he deserves this afternoon.

2. I wholeheartedly believe that the club needs to (continue to?) work with Joe – and Kyle – in order to adjust whatever is in his brain that’s causing him to go off pop. As Barnetsarries said – he’s at the top of his trajectory at the moment career-wise but pretty soon new players will be snapping at his heels to take his England jersey and it’s behaviour like this that will ultimately consign him to the history books. For what it’s worth I think this is somewhat different to the Yarde issue. Yarde apparently had commitment issues that meant he couldn’t be bothered to attend trading or wanted to do things on his own terms. That’s not Joe or Kyle. They have the commitment (too much, maybe?), they just can’t keep a lid on their tempers.

3. Why the hell would we want to terminate the contract of one of the best front row forwards in Britain? Yeah, let’s give a clear advantage away to another team and not be able to attract a worthy successor in his place. We’ll slip down the table into Championship obscurity, but at least we’ll have the moral high ground. Anyone who thinks that this is the right thing to do in professional sport needs their bumps felt.

4. I’m struggling to see how Joe’s red card on Sunday – or his and / or Kyle’s disciplinary records this season – have any bearing on either our league position or our financial position if we miss out on Europe. I get that we are more likely to leap points with 14 men on the pitch, but We came within one point of winning on Sunday and any number of things would have meant 5 league points rather than 3, Marler’s attendance on the pitch at the end notwithstanding. I have also witnessed our performances this season and there have been countless times when we have leaked points – both through tries and penalties – with 15 men on the pitch. Our defence stinks. To blame our current predicament on the actions of one or two individuals is short-sighted at best, and largely crackers.

I think stinks is a little strong. Smells perhaps, or whiffs, but stinks? Now and again it's fragrant, so not sure how you can say that.

Fair play. Maybe that was a little harsh. Be the sentiment remains.

Spot on. Agree with all of this.

Danny Care's take on it was quite interesting. He's been co-hosting the BBC sport rugby podcast with Ugo the last two weeks. Seems that after the game JK was mainly focusing on the positives. Also thinks they were hard done by with the decision right at the end to disallow the try

What did Marler do?

A ‘dangerous clear out’ according to Twitter.

Shoulder charge to the head of a Sale player at a ruck.

Very obvious

Very obviously stupid

Much as this trolling thread, I shouldn't have bothered reading it!
With a very heavy helping of forearm smash to the head.
