Injury updates?

Any news on Saili, Clifford et al? Thought Saili was meant to be fit for the La Rochelle game.

Don't think there's been any further announcements since the last update.

Saili was due to see the specialist again on the 15th. Even if he got given the long awaited all clear, I definitely wouldn't have put him straight into the La Rochelle game.

I just hope we seem him back, it's seeming an awfuly long time, with Bothma out again for the rest of the season and Cat still out you have to say that JK hasn't had great luck with his signings this season!

Says the Cat should be back this month according to the Sticky thread. Rocker aren't Boyce, Lang and Elia shrewd signings though?

Pretty sure Rocker wasn't suggesting they were poor signings; rather that JK's been unfortunate as our biggest 3 signings have all picked up freak/long-term injuries.

Thought Lang was academy, albeit he was signed to academy, rather than coming up through u18s and the EPDG?

Boyce and Elia looking like good signings so far though.

Not sure why people seem to be so hopeful every time we're told Saili is two weeks away, as surely that just means that he feels ok, hopes to get the all clear and then he'll be back training and will take 2 weeks to get up to speed? If so then until he actually gets the all clear, it's 2 weeks from who knows when

Yes Lang’s academy.

Boyce, Elia, Bothma, Glynn, all good signings in their own ways

Cat and Saili are great signings in theory......

Im pretty sure Salli has been involved in full training but had not had the all clear to play??

That's it in a nutshell. Sailli looked good in the few minutes before he was knocked out. And having a handful of NZ caps you'd expect him to be pretty decent.

Am I the only one who's never been that excited by Catra? Smith and Lang have proved that if you're good enough, you're old enough and now seem to be the guys in possession of the shirts. Catra and Swiel have a real job on their hands getting a starting berth nailed down for any length of time now with the two youngsters excelling. I doubt either of them will be happy being the Anglo-Welsh starting 10 and sitting on the bench for the first hour for Prem games and Champs Cup. I can see one or both of Swiel/Cat leaving at the earliest opportunity tbh, although Cat's presumably got a couple of seasons left on his contract after this one...

Wasn't that excited when we signed him but readily admit I'm not sure I've ever seen him play more than one game, so giving him the benefit of the doubt and look forward to seeing what he can do when fit.

I agree though that even if he was signed as a first choice, he has to earn that now that Smith has played so well.

My hope is the Cat will give us something that we haven't heard for years - a fantastic out of hand kicking game combined with an absolute cannon of a boot. I think over the last few seasons we've been really poor at putting the opposition under territorial pressure through our kicking game.

Long range goal kicking is also a big plus - much harder for the opposition to defend if they know that giving up a penalty anywhere in their own half is a potential 3 points.

Isn't the point sort of if he was that great you'd have heard more about him, and seen more of him play? It may well turn out to be an astute signing, but not sure we can put it in he positive column before he has nailed down a starting spot, because he hardly comes with a world class reputation.

I thought Lang's kicking from hand was very good, and he seems to have a better range from the tee than Smith does. They seem to complement each other well.

I'd agree that Lang has more range than Smith - but I don't think he's quite got the Cat's range (yet).

Well, quite

Well he was signed as Evans replacement, holds records for points scoring for his previous teams and if he was world class we’d lose him for half of the season - and the whole point was meant to be that we didn’t lose him at all.

So I think we can probably put him in the neutral column as a bare minimum and try not to sound so sneering about his reputation.

How is it sneering? A top class fly half has a lot of exposure. I'm very happy to put him in the neutral column, just pointing out that posters claiming he's a great signing are jumping the gun a bit. He certainly looks a world class kicker.
