If we had our whole squad fit... what would be our strongest XV?
quinsfan123 (IP Logged)

Would be interesting as have a feeling Cat would be included over Smith. Likewise, what would be our BR, SR and centre combinations? Imagine a back row of 6 CR, 7 Clifford and 8 Bothma with Luamanu or Chis jr on the bench.

Is Cheeseman our long term answer at 12 or will we go down the Smith/Lang option at 10 and 12 respectively. He looks a good player with real power and speed to go along with a good passing game.

He needs to get in line behind Saili and Sloan.

Agree re Wallace. I know it must be an agreed tactic (or he would be dropped) but I find it infuriating when we having a rolling maul near the try line and instead of joining he is on the wing waving his arms. He did it a few times yesterday. For me, he wouldnít be in our best 23.

I would have Marchant in our 15 - I think he is excellent.

For me itís;
15 Brown
14 Walker
13 Marchent
12 Sialli
11 Visser
10 Smith
9 Care

1 Marler
2 Elia
3 Sinckler
4 Horwill
5 Twomey/South
6 Robshaw
7 J Chisholm
8 Clifford

16 Ward
17 Boyce
18 Collier
19 Merrick/South or Twomey
20 Wallace
21 Lewis
22 Lang
23 Alofa

But that is a hard task, one because we have some excellent depth in some positions but two because not sure youíll ever get all the players healthy at the same time!

For me:

15- Brown
14- Visser
13- Marchant
12 - Roberts as he's currently playing
11- Walker
10- Probably Smith but think he and Cat probably offer different, usefully contrasting abilities
9- Care
8- Bothma (though Luamanu offers a lot)
7- Chisholm, though it's close with Clifford and lovely having Wallace back as an option
6- Robshaw
5- Horwill
4- probably Merrick
3- Sinckler, just
2- Ward
1- Marler

16- Boyce, 17- Buchanan (Elia pushing), 18- Collier, 19- hard call between Matthews and Twomey, will say Matthews as Twomey out so long, 20 - Clifford, 21- Kitto, 22- Catrakalis, 23- Saili probably but hard to rate

Next season, based on confirmed and suspected contract stuff:

15 - Brown
14- Visser
13- Marchant
12- Saili
11- Earle
10- Smith
9- Care
8- Bothma
7- Chis
6- Robshaw
5- Horwill
4- Symons
3- Sinck
2- Ward
1 - Marler

Boyce, Buchanan, Collier, Merrick, Clifford, Kitto, Cat, Tapuai/Walker

A few above have Matthews or Merrick partnering Horwill - I would have Twomey over either of them any day !

Collier, Cat, Renaldo and Clifford start. Sinck, Wonderboy, the Beast and baby Chis as "finishers"and what a bench! Twomey ahead of his old academy mates. Merrick bench. Elia with Wardie as injury back up. Roberts with Saili (on his CV only). Marchant for Roberts if more than 7 behind, Saili moves inside.

It'll never happen.

Genuine question for those picking Cat ahead of Smith - is this based on what they've seen of him in France and South Africa, or just on the fact that he was signed as first choice and is considerably more experienced than all the other options? I've admitted elsewhere that I know next to nothing about him, but I'd say that even this early on, based on reputation alone, Smith seems to be rated higher than the Cat, perhaps more on potential than current form.

The problem with some of our players, like Cat, Saili and even Twomey is that we've either never seen them play much for us, so very hard to say they're first choice when fit, or it's been so long since they've been fit that it's hard to know if they should be first choice again (e.g. Twomey)

Twomey and Kev made a formidable pairing for a short time when Kev first played for us. Merrick is a bit bigger than Sam but I think Sam is more skilful. Both have got more go forward than Matthews. I would have Sam & Kev with George on the bench.

A backrow of Luamanu, Clifford and Bothma would be very powerful and wouldn't a big 12 in Roberts as you would have this extra weight in the BR.

I can't take seriously the idea that Robshaw isn't first choice when fit. He might be rested from time to time given the number of miles on the clock, but for a crunch game if he's available, he plays. Both of him.

They say form is temporary but class is permanent, but this is as close as you get to a player for whom form is permanent. He had a run of three bad games after the 2015 RWC, which is the only time I can ever remember his form dipping for any length of time, and I have lost count of the number of times he has saved Quins' bacon in critical moments.

We're lucky to have Chis and Cliff to replace him, but their time will come and it is not now.

Anyway, Bothma or Clifford should be playing 8 ahead of Luamanu, and I would hope that Saili would be the best option at 12 outside Smith.

Poorfour - I'm with you, if Robshaw is fit, he plays - first name on the sheet every day of the week.

Chisholm fast becoming as irreplaceable.

Clifford and Bothma next

Luamanu doesn't even make the bench!!!!!!!

Totally agree he was great for us for a short while. Really hope he will be again. Just saying that unfortunately due to injury I personally don't think he was first choice for long enough to be automatically first choice again when he's fully match fit. Be awesome if he got back up to that level quickly again

Not good enough: Wallace, Matthews, Gray, Buchanan, Swiel, Mulchrone

Assuming we're looking to go out and play our way with the strongest possible team:

1. Marler
2. Elia
3. Sinckler
4. Twomey
5. Horwill (C)
6. Robshaw
7. Clifford
8. Chisholm
9. Care
10. Smith
11. Visser
12. Roberts
13. Saili
14. Walker
15. Brown

16. Ward
17. Boyce
18. Collier
19. Merrick
20. Bothma
21. Kitto
22. Catrakilis
23. Marchant

Would also be happy with Saili 12 and Marchant 13, or in the event of needing more bulk/tight nous Collier, Merrick and Luamanu into the 15 where required. Wallace is hard to find a place for, which saddens me but I guess Baby Chis has played so well that he's too difficult to leave out.

If we were putting out that side week-in-week out I don't think we'd be far off challenging for the title. Provided we defend how we did against Scarlets on Saturday.
