But I suppose you could say a player has an all black contract earning X amount. They come over to quins and are paid Y for their time here (all above board within the cap). The combination of those two salaries (plus what ever sponsor deals they have from the all blacks) would probably work out a decent amount. Plus they keep the chance of playing for the all blacks.

Good point...they keep their chance of playing for the All Blacks. They play for Toulouse, they won't. Hmmm...interesting.

Yeah. they earn a decent wedge (legally) and keep their international hopes. Their all blacks contracts have nothing to do with the salary cap. As long as Quins pay them within the cap its ok.

If there is any substance to it the PRL and RFU will soon put a stop to it!

I really doubt we're going to be West London All Blacks with the addition of a couple of them to our squad.

Just ideas for where Quin could get a level injury cover:

1. Marler-50+ internationals
2. Premiership level
3.Sinkler-Lions/International Collier-Int capped
4. Premiership
5. International - 50+ Kolpak
6.Robshaw: Former England Captain
7tongue sticking out smileyremiership
8tongue sticking out smileyremiership
9:1st choice International
10: 1/2 International
11:Visser
12:Robert-Multiple International
13: Marchant: semi international
14: Alofa2: lower inter national
15: 1st choice International.

If Quins had injuries and were able to call players into replace absentees.

From The Times today:

"The deal has already lurched into fast-forward. Nick Evans, the Harlequins attack coach, has already landed in Wellington for a fortnight’s learning experience with Wayne Smith and the Hurricanes. That is brilliant for Harlequins."

Yeah seriously, that's great. Being a little cynical I'd say Evans getting that experience is a long term benefit for the all blacks, but even so it's great to see this isn't just window dressing.

Hopefully we'll see some of the younger players like Ibitoye, Smith, Lamb, White, etc loaned out during the summer to play in the Mitre10 comp. That sort of experience would definitely help their development as players.

There was a piece in the Guardian (I think) on a related note pointing out that very few England players have experience of playing overseas and highlighting players from a number of nations for whom it's had a big benefit in the way they play -- inc Martin Johnson.

It cited the lack of exposure to other leagues as perhaps one reason the england team have shown themselves to be very poor at innovation and thinking on their feet despite Jones' best efforts.
