SouthWestern trains - match on/off

As someone posted on the weather thread, SouthWestern Trains have decided they aren’t running any services after 8pm.

Let’s leave aside how useless that is.

But despite Twickenham being devoid of snow and all roads being open and free of traffic - I fear the club may now have to decide to cancel the game,

Let’s see.

Yes. But big television will want it to be played, even behind closed doors! neither team will want the fixture hanging around on the list. It'll just be me there then. Hope the Quins Head is open!

Well can't imagine the club will be over the moon either. But things like SWT closing down are out of their control but does impact the game. The club is doing everything possible to make this game happen, but if it isn't enough then it won't be the club's fault.

Club making an announcement at 12.30pm. They’ll be under severe pressure from BT Sport to keep it on.

That said, I read somewhere on Twitter that the Bath coach was stuck on the A46 outside the town.

Isn't the A46 near Stratford on Avon?

It's near quite a lot of places.

If southwestern trains end up being responsible for the cancelling of this damn game.

Run the trains - they run in Canada, France, Poland, Germany, every other county with one snowfall can cope.

Pathetic. “Red alert”. This country.

Google Maps says that Bath Rugby to the Stoop should currently only take 2h 12min. There is really no reason to call this off.

Except that no-one who gets the train can attend.

From Wiki, so it must be true.

"The A46 is an A road in England. It starts east of Bath, Somerset and ends in Cleethorpes, Lincolnshire,"

Ah fair dos. In that case there seem to be two A46s (or two distinct parts to it), as Google Maps shows it starting near Leicester and heading north-east.

I imagine if the game goes ahead, it will more BT to blame than the club

Again, which I genuinely feel for those people - but why cancel for everyone else?

No snow, no blocked roads. No frozen pitch. No reason to cancel.

Looks like TV don't have the final say .. Chiefs moved their game to Sunday , and BT Sport
cancelled planned coverage of the Warriors Game to go to Exeter.

So no Sat pm game at the moment ???...

Normally I'd agree, but it is so cold I'll be happy for this to be cancelled.
I don't fancy sitting in the stands for 2hrs in temp with that feel -5 taking into account the wind chill.
If it goes ahead I will be there.

I think the club should also be warning supporters on the train situation. Closing suburban services was not expected and some will travel to the game without realising.

The roads may not be blocked in the local area, but venture a little further out & thanks picture soon changes. A lot of our game travel some distance to the Stoop, and chances are that they'll struggle to make it. I probably won't be able to as even the A roads round here are chaos. Add in traveling away fans will be reduced as well.

Neither club is in European knockout rugby are they? There's plenty of spare weekends the game could be rescheduled to.

Well I'd have thought that people getting the train is potentially a majority of people attending. I'd expect attendance today to be pitiful.

But those things aside, there are probably plenty of people out there who don't even realise yet that the trains only run until 8pm. Not the club's problem in a sense, but potentially a disaster waiting to happen if people travel to the game unwittingly.

All the club's tweets are being met with a deluge of responses about the trains being cancelled.

This has all the makings of a farce.

To those that are going you have my respect.

But the game should be called off, its bad for the Quins fans but even worse for the Bath lot.

I think I will drive up. there's no need for the club to cancel the game as the weather is really not too bad around here, but the pathetic decision for SWT to stop services has changed that.

Conditions no good over in Kent so won't make it over tonight unfortunately. Nice work South Western Railway.. surely a reduced service would have been an option?

Club have just said “sorry for delay update coming.”

Makes me think they may now cancel - which would be a bit rubbish for anyone already heading this way thinking they’re beating the trains/traffic/snow.

Egham. No difficulty I shouldn't think, depending on traffic, but not sure I can watch Quins play in that cold without copious amounts of booze.
