Harlequins, Northampton and Worcester in three-way battle for 11th place

So here’s where things currently stand: Harlequins 36 points, Northampton 32 and Worcester 27. These are the remaining fixtures.

Northampton v Saracens
Harlequins v Irish
Worcester v Newcastle

Gloucester v Harlequins
Worcester v Wasps
Leicester v Northampton

Worcester v Harlequins
Wasps v Northampton

Harlequins v Exeter
Northampton v Worcester

Every club needs targets — JK said so at the beginning of the year — so perhaps his latest target should be to avoid finishing in 11th place?

That should be enough to satisfy Mr Ellis and get the coaches contracts extended, especially as they can all now go off to New Zealand for a nice long ‘business trip’ as a reward, or ‘continuing professional development’.

Let’s hope for next season that Bristol haven’t learned their lessons from their last return to the Premiership.

I think with Northampton playing Worcester on the last day, and the fact that Northampton's fixtures are pretty tricky other than that, means that we'll be okay for 9th.

But the fact that we're even discussing this is testament to how depressing this season has been.

My expert prognosis:-

Quins;- Two games might be alright. Two games might not be alright.
Saints:- One game might be alright. Three games might not be alright.
Worcester:- Four games might not be alright.

Northampton v Saracens Away win
Harlequins v Irish Home win
Worcester v Newcastle Away win

Gloucester v Harlequins Hmm?
Worcester v Wasps Away win
Leicester v Northampton Home win

Worcester v Harlequins Away win
Wasps v Northampton Home win

Harlequins v Exeter Hmm?
Northampton v Worcester Home win

In terms of this season, does it really matter if we finish 9/10/11th, its been a poor season either way.

Think we'll probably win 2, lose 2 and maintain our position, but I don't really care. 9th or 10th is rubbish either way. 11th really would be dire but I don't see that happening.

How any more or less of a worry than this one? Summer could be pivotal. We've got a good squad and good signings - something else is going wrong.

In 17 years we've only finished lower than this once - and we got relegated.

So I have some hope that it'll reach breaking point.

I can only see one win out of those 4. Would be happy to be proved wrong, but with our away form, I can't see us winning either of those.

Won't there be some input from North of the Tasman Sea?

Yes - I foresee astroblemic annihilation.

And the bezan shall be huge and black, and the eyes thereof red with the blood of living creatures, and the @#$%& of Babylon shall ride forth on a three-headed serpent, and throughout the lands, there'll be a great rubbing of parts. Yeah. For the demon shall bear a nine-bladed sword. Nine-bladed! Not two or five or seven, but nine, which he will wield on all wretched sinners, sinners just like you, sir, there, and the horns shall be on the head, with which he will...

I worry, too...

And there shall in that time be rumours of things going astray, and there will be a great confusion as to where things really are, and nobody will really know where lieth those little things with the sort of raffia work base....

Looks as if 11th is now a distinct possibility.

Well done the executive who extended their contracts — just makes it way more expensive to get rid of them, which for a 'money man' almost certainly means he won't do it!

Someone who knows the 'price of everything, but the value of nothing' ring a bell?

It may not cost to sack him/the coaches. It is possible that certain clauses were contained in the contracts (penalties for low finishes/early cup exits etc).

9th, 10th, 11th. I don't care. It's failure whichever of those numbers we pick.
