Passes off the ground

Iím no laws expert but is the pass off the ground legal?

If you are supposed to release the ball on being tackled and hitting the ground are some of these passes dodgy. Seem to be a lot lately.

Like most of rugby, it's one of those grey areas where technically it's not supposed to be allowed but is waved on as part of what helps make the game flow.

I thought it was OK as long as the ball hadn't touched the ground.

And the release of the ball is supposed to be "immediate". Not 2 rollovers, a wait and then throw the ball to someone.

I think it also depends on whether the player is held, or the tackle has been completed.

Players are allowed to place the ball after getting tackled so perhaps that's why they're allowed to pass off the floor.

Also noticed recently players getting away with tackling while on the ground!

Harlequins, (was once) probably the best rugby club in the world!
