JK Post-match comments
Bucksquin 07 April, 2018 18:57
According to the BBC website:

Harlequins director of rugby John Kingston:

"We never got going. Irish played well, but we were lethargic from the start and never got anything going.

"It got worse and discipline was an issue for us in the second half.

"We had a difficult time post-Christmas and in February, but we won with our backs against the wall against Bath last month.

"But we've slipped into a below par performance again today and I'm the first to say it's not acceptable."

First to say, but last to take responsibility?

Read and re-read this and still can't see 'I resign'.

No passion, no fire, no I apologise to the fans who had to be embarrassed by that nonsense against a local rival. Nothing.

I may Have only been watching premiership rugby since 2011 but today must be the worst most apathetic dismalperformance in that time for Quins.
At no point did we look like winning that game after the 1st score as based as England were they managed to get more out of our players than our coaches.

we all know JK has a contract extension but for all the time he has been at the club it would be nice if he looked at the way the club is being torn apart under his directorship, team playing with no direction, fans leaving early from games, rumbles of dissatisfaction getting louder at each game etc and did the right thing and resign.
in future the fans would think a lot more of him for these actions as it would allow a replacement to be put in place during the summer and give us a chance to achieve things going forward from the start of next season.
you look at our team sheet and it has quality players throughout, its just not playing like it.

That’s the best he can come up with????? And truthfully it was an extremely poor performance. Our “par” is very poor. On that basis it was I guess “below par”. So he got that right!

Ellis won’t get rid of Kingston. He thinks he can fill a 25,000 stadium every week.

LI fan here in peace.....

Loved Connor O'Shea and wished he'd been with us but the foundations of your great seasons were with that cheating Dean Richards. No real progress since he left - and look what he has done at Newcastle. Connor held the ship, Kingston has inherited a sinking ship and someone needs to do something about it.

I have to admit JK has always seemed a rather marmite character. however one thing sticks out for me, and that is he seems rather authoritarian, which in itself can be beneficial or conversely disruptive based upon the environment and team you are involved in. But he also seems remote and lacking personality or empathy. Now granted this is a distance view based purely upon interviews, being at games and watching rugby related tv shows so I could be well off the mark. But he does not really seem to be a man to follow, inspire confidence from or to build a successful team around. I believe his strength lies in supporting DORs in a coaching capacity rather than standing at the wheel himself.

No need for that. He actually speaks some sense and I tend to agree. I'm not defending JK, God only knows I'm not, but all Conor's successes were built on the foundations of Deano - he didn't really take the club very far forward. I on't thing we'd be flondering like we are now if he was still here, but I certainly don't think we'd be the all-conquering club. All JK has done is take that wobbly psudo-stabilty and let it drift in its natural direction (downward). We need a hard-nosed Saffa to come in and get shouty.

Deano did a good job for us but we won the league off Conor's changes, both in personnel and style of play. Deano had been gone quite some time by that point. It's flat out wrong to deny Conor the credit and give it to Richards instead.

From the Aviva Premiership Website

Harlequins director of rugby John Kingston added: “We never got going, Irish played well but we were lethargic really from the start. Then it got worse and discipline again was an issue.

“I understand why players want to go off and solve the world on their own when it’s not going well, but it never works, particularly in team sport.

“We’ve had a difficult time post-Christmas, we had a difficult time in February, but we’ve slipped into a mother sub-standard performance and I’m the first to say it’s not acceptable.

“They worked harder than we did across the board and whoever you are it becomes quite difficult to win games of rugby if you’re getting out worked, which we were.”

Apart from the typo the main part for me is the statement about players going off to solve the world. My take on this is that on the pitch the tactical and strategic instructions from the top are not being followed. This leads me to ask why?

If players don’t think that the game play is working and do their own thing, which also doesn’t appear to work either, then we really are in a mess.

So yet again blames players, no apology, no admission of any responsibility. Seems to lack any sense of honour. Everyone else is wrong and to blame but I'm right and not in any way at fault. The reference to the bath win is bizarre. We've been dreadful for a while but hey, we won a game, so there. It's utterly irrelevant.

Re: JK Post-match comments
Cookie 08 April, 2018 13:14
He’s said this multiple times. If it’s the players, drop the culprits or do something to enforce your will on them.

Seems to me the scenarios are:

1. He can’t make the players do what he wants
2. The players won’t do what he wants
3. The players can’t do what he wants

I don’t believe 3 is realistic as the quality of the players is too high, so whether it’s 1 or 2, he and his team of coaches are culpable. Simple.
