Awareness must have crept up on me,because none of my family are interested in sport. The first time I watched any game was on 18th March 1978...Ireland v France possibly, and definately a 5N game. The reason that the date sticks in my mind is because that was our wedding day! We both hate fuss,so had been married in the morning, had lunch at a local hotel and back to our new home by 2pm...Who thinks romance is dead?
After that,we watched all 5N games and in 1991,the world cup came to Britain.I became hooked watching all the games and was into everything England.Bought the video and got to know which clubs all the team played for. Then in the spring of 1992,said to hubby that I'd love to go and watch a game of rugby. He said he'd look into it,discovered that Saints would be playing at WR midweek,so bought tickets. It was an amazing experience, sitting in the Crumbie stand amongst Tigers supporters.I kept quiet, not having realised that home and away folks mixed like that. But watching Saints cap'n and hooker John Olver make a dash down the wing (short run,it was!),I was soon encouraging him to "RUN".
So that was when I first became aware of Saints.
And yes,great thread,Laurie
