A failure everywhere he's coached. Nice chap, just not cut out for coaching at the top level.

I believe your post sums up some of the clubs issues Flapjack

BR retired and went to coach the backs at Glos, who at this time (2009-12) produced Simpson-Daniel, Tindall, Trinder, May, Burns, Sharples.. added 12trees etc.

- Glos mid table under Ryan and Redpath - then 3rd in the premiership (we were 4th)
- Poached by Sale where he had played and won the premiership (he had 2 years left at Glos and Glos looked at legal recourse they were that incensed to lose him)
- Took Sale from bottom 3 to top 6 in the table and back to European rugby before they slotted Dimes in above him and he moved on
- Left Sale for Leeds, who sit 2nd in the table

equates somehow to failure

Coaching = a TON of pressure and that's only growing - Cockers fired at Tiggs, the call's for Jim's head - it's madness.. if Leeds go up, how do they compete with the money at Bristol et al? or attract players when the prem clubs have already had their pick for 6months before they know if they are up or not..

So he's offered a city salary to meet clients, entertain and presumably that will start by being paid to go with the lions..

Top bloke and don't blame the guy, good luck to him

Sorry Mr Tub, I've got to bite on this one.

[news.bbc.co.uk]

He was promoted at Gloucester as the easy option & as you say inherited a very good side that needed a fresh voice. But lets not pretend it was going swimmingly when he got the job or that they won anything. in fact, 6 defeats in a row saw them finish 9th

Redpath is made DOR at Sale June 2012 & replaced by Dimes in October 2012. He was a lame duck for the rest of his time at the club. Also, look at how their backline has improved since his departure.

Carnegie are 2nd, yes, 8 behind London Irish, but 19 ahead of Doncaster in third. Are you trying to tell me the Championship is competitive? Yorkshire has more money than most, more facilities than most, certainly in comparison to say Bedford.

Looks like failure to me.

The calls for Jim's head? From a handful of posters on here who won't listen to reason & the press who are looking for a story. Why get upset with them when it's so much easier to ignore them? Most people have worked where the Saints problems lay.

Blimey, all this anti-DoR stuff...

He did OK as a coach, then someone offered him job security, life security and a big wedge to boot.

QED.

He didn't just walk into the City job!

Good coaches don't always make good directors of rugby (See Lancaster under different circumstances). Redpath is a decent coach and would be an asset to many coaching teams.

Would his appointment excite me as much as King's did?... No, but we need somebody.

A minor correction.

Glaws told him, just before Christmas, he'd be sacked at the end of the season. Looked into quitting rugby & got an offer from Sale before he'd decided to jack it in.
