The refs so far this year have been far more stringent on the player holding on, on the floor when a a player is over the ball. Foden tried 2-3 times to make the player release before being cleared out at the JFR sending off incident on the line and the penalty should have gone our way IMHO obviously. If Dickson is going to allow holding on on the ground then so be it. Plus he needs to stop coaching just one side for their offences, how many times so far has he had to warn Sale for hands in the ruck? Too many for me I'm afraid, but as he is still learning and has his stabilisers on I'm sure these matches don't count for much :-)

Kickable penalty in last minute to get a draw and end losing streak......go for the corner and eventually knock on.......LOST

I know it was only Dicksons second game in charge but regardless of the yellow cards and the disallowed try for Yarde, there was far too much input from the TMO. As for the commentator on the stream I was watching....clearly a Sale fan......grrrr

So constant knock on's, lack of ball retention, a team still with a lack of discipline, no killer instnct, a player who is a very poor place kicker taking kicks ahead of the fly half, falling off tackles, a non lock at lock (proven several times that it does not work) and yet another loss.
Still at least the usual supporters will be happy as the slide continues.
Looking forward to Jim's post match .... "we did much better this week and came so close ..... blah blah blah".

3 yellow cards and they just scraped a win. Sale did not have their finest day, it's remarkable we got what we did.

Tidy up the discipline and that would have been a walk in, even with a weakened team.

Getting the kick was 90%. Try less than 50%.

Take a banker draw, feels like a win, thank you very much.

Instead ballsed it up and another loss.

Better than expected tbh but still very poor and very frustrating - feeding sporadically off of their knock onís. Three yellow cards is simply unacceptable. General lack of intelligence. General lack of intensity except for last five minutes. Scrum more solid - no Brookes helped?. Lineout poor.
Hopefully some returnees next week including a lock.

I think Deesaint it is due to Saints being clueless, rudderless with no game plan and seemingly no idea how best to compete in the last 10 when the game is tight. We mess up far too many times late in the game. I rarely feel confident we will be clinical late in a game !!

Just back from the game well about 40 mins ago.
I assume that everyone on here listened to the game and didn't actually watch?

I thought Patterson was 10m away and was hard done to be carded.

Ford Robinson and the rest of the Saints thought they had won the ball fairly. Mr Dixon explained that in his opinion Ford Robinson had lost the fight for the ball and was therefore offside when he kicked the ball back. Another day a different call.

Harry didn't miss many tackles, and was quite good under the high ball in some very wet conditions. Not sure it would be a game he needs to forget?
Foden was tackling the player and had one arm around him. From one shot it was Ok but a different angle looked clearly as he had deliberately knocked on

Saints clearly went for the win near the end and thought they were on top. They came very close to winning.

Still everyone to their opinions.

Defence was not good. Better, but not good.

See stats linked. 19 players beaten (I watched online).

Sale also had 60% of possession and 60% territory.

Granted was better than last week but not good. Since we donít have enough possession we conceded penalties, yellows etc. Sale had almost double the number of rucks.....

Depends what you call defending well Chris. Iíd argue we need to be turning over ball.... the stats suggest teams can quite easily go through phases. Good defence is IMHO disruptive, if you allow teams that much ball eventually that tells. Remember this isnít a top 4 side.

On TV it did look like the attitude was better though as you suggest.

I think a mention should go to young guns James Grayson and Jamal F-R. James played a very mature game and the scrum held up. A good effort from the both of them.

I watched on the PC. All three yellows were justified even though another referee on another day may have been marginally more lenient.

Grayson did ok and is a reliable kicker so why not use him for goal ?

Harry was not all bad by any means but he did make some costly errors.

In general, you can't win without the ball.

I don't think Sale were ever in a mood to run away with it, they had a bad day at the office too.

Interesting to read all the comments "the morning after" having found a feed to watch.

Tackling - I thought much improved. A couple of lovely tackles in the centre, one Hutchinson bringing down Yarde when's he had the outside. But the defence is giving advantage away by playing much too narrow.

Referee - agree with the comments regarding decisions. I thought he had a good game and avoided getting all pedantic about the scrum. Yellows were marginal, and yes, might not have been given on another day by different ref. T'was always thus. When you're down, it feels like everyone is against you!

Harry - at least someone was making decisions. We do seem rather rudderless. Is that because decisions have to be made on the touchline? Don't know. His overall game was OK I thought. He played a wet high ball well, and was not afraid Tom go for it. Would we had some more like him. I did wonder about the kicking duties, but have not seen enough of Grayson Minor to comment. But his out of hand kicking does lack control. Sometimes a howitzer sometimes a squib.

Overall - we seem to lack a game plan. What role do the forwards have around the pitch. Has anyone seen our "round the corner runner" game lately? I would love to compare some mileage stats after such a game. Props and second rows would be worth comparing, even with our own numbers from previous years. Seem relatively quiet. I was relieved by the centre pairing's overall play, but again, what were they expected to do? They handled well and made ground. Just lacked a bit of composure and support. As said in the team thread, I really would like to see Nutters given a run with these three quarters. Reminds me a bit of Sam Harding.

Would I have gone for the posts at the end? Yes. Am I happy with a point? Relieved might be the word! But it was more than I expected. Ooooh a chance to bash Dorian - given the lineout performance during the day, perhaps the last lineout was a tad optimistic?!

Just for sake of argument they decided to ease the burden on young Grayson by not giving him goal kicking duties. Allow him to concentrate on game management and donít give the lad too much in his first start. A couple of missed kicks and his confidence goes down the pan affecting his game. Seems sensible to me at this stage in his career.

With better discipline we would have won. I watched on the internet and at the point Paterson got 10 minutes, we were on the front foot and could easily have kicked on. We just let Sale back into the game and even though we didnít concede many points, they started to get their act together.

IMO we should have gone for the points but it has to be a team decision. I thought that the centres defended well and made yards. I always rate Hutch and Tom was outstanding before he got injured so no real surprise. They are both better Rugby players than Burrell.
