With news from the chron that North is back in full training See here it begs the question...

Given our current run of success and the fact that he’ll be off to join Wales the week after, does North get a place in the starting XV for the Saracens game.

Plus I’ve not done a poll before so thought it might be fun

If it’s successful expect more, if not we shall pretend it never happened

TBH, difficult to justify dropping Ken and Ben so it's a no from me

I would vote nofor no other reason we need to use this next game to prepare those players who will be starting over the 6 nations pweiod. Wales are happy enough to name him in the squad without any game time so let wales take the consequences of not being ready to play for them.
Club before country I’m afraid in my opinion.

NO!

Full training doesn't mean he's fit to start.

Is Ace fit after going off for an HIA and not returning?

Clearly it makes sense to stick with Saturday's guys but there might be a slot on the bench.

When he's back and the league resumes, he must play.

I'm not sure why we should change a winning side in order to give George match practice before going off to play for Wales. When he returns from the 6N he will have to demonstrate why he should be picked for the Saints.

Saint Maul 16 January, 2018 19:05
He's not match fit so starting him makes no sense.

However, is it cutting off our nose to spite our face if we don't have him on the bench when fit. Leaving us or not he can be a match-turner.

Looking at who we’ve just added to the squad I don’t think we’re going all out for sarries

Match fit for a forward I completely get, match fit for a wing, not so much

If your not fit to start the match you shouldn’t be on the bench in my opinion, injury in the first minute and your on for the rest of the match, possibly not in your normal position

Still, I voted no, but that because we need to keep the momentum going and he’s not around for. The next couple of months

A place on the bench certainly but no to starting. Those who have been in the team for the last two weeks deserve their places.
One of the differences under the Gaffer is that the slate has been wiped clean and those on the pitch have a genuine shot at the matchday 23. The impression earlier in the season and last season was that certain players would only get a game as injury cover no matter their performance.

Ken's playing some of the best rugby since he's been at saints imho.

Keep winning team, have to earn the shirt etc

Of course he does
Ben to full back
Why wouldn’t you play your best players

Very interesting question. I assume that Ace will not be available because of head injury, also Collins injured. If that is true then he has to go in with Ben at 15. Also a question eat 10, if Piers is fit.
This is where the Gaffer earns his corn.

Francis has not trained according Chronicle so he won’t be playing this week. Assume Ace will be rested or not available so Foden to FB which leaves a wing slot. I’d play him. If Ace was fit I’d put George on the bench.

May be one of the last opportunities he has for playing in a Saints shirt

Sorry but he's last years man no point in giving him one game. This year is a wash-out so best give others a chance and get experience for next year

I'm with Deesaint. If fit play him. Replace Ace.

George is still a vital part of the set up and will be until he leaves. If fit and assuming everyone else is available I would put him on the bench. If not, he starts. You can’t start leaving out an international and lions standard player such a North.

Re: Poll: Does North go straight back into the starting lineup?
Scrummy 16 January, 2018 23:27
No, he needs adequate rehab first and then careful reintroduction having had a failed return from injury first time round.

“still”

When was he a vital part of the setup? 3 years ago probably...

Nevertheless IMO he remains the best winger on the books by some distance. With Tuala doubtful I would select North.

I wonder how he would play in "the new Saints" he may also bring something extra that the youngsters can learn from?

+1

In his comeback game he was looking hungry and searching for the ball untik he got injured again. It would be madness to not select him for the rest of the season as some have suggested.

What about the others who are leaving do we ostracise them as well. Seems a bizarre way of managing a squad

Re: Poll: Does North go straight back into the starting lineup?
Wilson Pickett 17 January, 2018 08:35
ostracise? We are just talking about picking on merit. I feel for the guy and frankly I worry about his health. He has been constantly injured so isn’t a priority, but if Tuala is injured then sure.

Re: Poll: Does North go straight back into the starting lineup?
Saint Robert 17 January, 2018 08:48
For me the issue is more about whether or not he is in the 23. If he is then I favour starting him because if he breaks down again we at least have a sub to bring on. If he comes off the bench as a tactical replacement then there is the risk that he breaks down and we then have no cover.

I thought he was injured pretty much first thing in the match he did?
The difference with other players that may be leaving, is they are match fit and have been playing all season together. So of course we play them. Very different to putting George back in to the mix, he'd have one game to get in the swing of things, just to leave us for 6 weeks.
Seems pointless.
I'd rather he goes away with wales, sets the world on fire and comes back deserving to walk into the 14 shirt & we see the best of him till he leaves.

But injuries may mean we opt for Ben at fullback & North to the wing. I think if he can string a few games together for us he will profit from our evolving style of play.

I also hope we haven't rushed his comeback and something twinges again, poor bloke!

I voted Yes, although having read the arguments I could easily be convinced to vote No ! If the same back 3 from last week was available then there is a convincing argument to leave as is, however the issue is clouded by injuries.

Once a scrum half .... always a scrum half

+1 for this. I know how he is managed with Wales is not in our control but lets do a better job of managing our assets than we have done previously. Who knows, if there is anything on the line in the run in for us then a fit and raring George north may make the difference.

There should be no greater consideration than player welfare in this

Seem to have missed the medical briefing saying GN would suffer if he played on Saturday
Sheds poor light on Saints medical team

I'm afraid I wouldn't pick George as I would stick with the guys that have restored pride and passion so why upset the team for one game. No where on this thread has Nafi been mentioned and if Ace is out then he surely deserves the shirt. Didn't he earn it on Saturday?

Many, but 20 views per vote?

Lurkers can't vote, so a proportion will be people viewing without a login

Also, if you look at the number of replies on a thread, I've probably clicked on that thread roughly that amount of times to check it

Unless it's gone midday on a match day, I try not to get involved once I've hit the pub

It’s a sorry state of affairs some of the apathy and comments ladled at him - whilst I take onboard that he has suffered more than his fair share of injuries given the right service he is a fantastic attacking weapon and if fully fit should get him back in ASAP
Maybe not this weekend but I would certainly like to see him sign off in style in the GB&G

Excellent option off of the bench for me.

Nafi & Ben both had solid performances against Clermont and I believe that we need to 'reward' Pisi (not his greatest fan, but has done nothing wrong since return).

Plus manage George's return. Assuming he does not get injured if he takes part in 6Ns we will need him in run in to the end of the season.
