semi final update.

Not half way through the two Anglo welsh games.
Looks like we are going away.
Exeter already scored 4 tries and Newcastle upto three.
If it keeps going in that direction we will be playing at Bath and Exeter at Falcons (if they score one more try)

Still playing and almost probably nearly certain
it will be bath

the other will be very close as to who plays at home.
Exeter need one more try or 6 more points to get a home game.

Interesting
Exeter and Falcons going into the last few minutes.
They appear to have equal tries and also equal points difference
Could be a toss of a coin for home advantage?

If we are playing away - probably the best opponent of the remaining teams

4 groups, 4 Welsh regions bottom of each group by some distance. Wales today looking pretty good. What's all that about? Things are smelly at the top of the pyramid.Time to bring back a proper knockout cup that every team in the land wants to win.

Two thirds of the Wales team were Scarlets. Scarlets currently playing excellent and attractive rugby but of course they are impacted disproportionately during the international season. Scotland messed up big time today. You canít take the performance of Wales and compare to the Anglo Welsh cup. Completely different situations.

I'm talking cup here , not internationals.Wales have marvelous players and quite a few top boys missing , yet the tables in the Anglo Welsh cup would point to no interest in the competition whatsoever. English teams also treat the cup with little interest.Like I said ,time for a proper national knockout cup that all clubs want to win.

Scarlets. Played 4 lost 4. Points 43 points against 143. Before the internationals have started. Wonder how many prospective internationals or European Cup players played in those 4 games.

The Welsh regions use it as development, even their head coaches get a day off. In the Scarlets case they have Pro14 games to come so they rest most of their prospective Pro14 side. Not forgetting that they have a decent representation in the Welsh U20 squad. For the regions, I suspect its a competition that they don't need and I understand its no more for them.

To some extent the problem is the opposite way around. English clubs not treating it as a development but as an extension of the Prem.

Either itís the domestic cup or itís not. If it is, then sides can field whoever they like and frankly should be fielding the strongest side possible.

I still say go back to Pilkington Cup format. English sides only across various divisions, knock out.

Scarlets Quins for example, they were all players that played locally for other clubs that were given an opportunity to play for Scarlets. The coaches team manager and players are all given days off and they play young local lads that are on the radar.

When the Anglo-welsh was the EDF then it was a first team competition, as I recall, the Welsh clubs did pretty well winning it many times.

So because Welsh teams won it for two (many??) of the three seasons it was sponsored be EDF this is the only period of time that it was a proper competition.
Old Pete will be along in a minute to tell me with a complete lack of irony that I am the narrow minded nationalist no doubt.

I read that one semi will be on a friday night and as Exeter are not 'allowed' to play at home on a friday, then it looks to be a done deal for the Rec in the dark.....again !
