Premiership Fixtures - Fri/Sat/Sun - The Facts !

As requested a look at fixture allocation from 2013/14 to Date:

Games played on a monday or tuesday during the festive period are counted as a sunday game.
Round 21 of this seasons games are not included as they have not been confirmed - all Round 22 are on a saturday as usual.

CLUB. TOTAL HOME GAMES. FRIDAY. SATURDAY. SUNDAY.

BATH. 55. 17. 35. 3.
BRISTOL. 11. 5. 1. 5.
EXETER. 54. 0. 39. 15.
GLOUCESTER. 54. 12. 38. 4.
HARLEQUINS. 55. 14. 35. 6.
LEICESTER. 54. 3. 32. 19.
LONDON IRISH. 43. 1. 23. 19.
LONDON WELSH. 11. 1. 3. 7.
NEWCASTLE. 55. 20. 10. 25.
NORTHAMPTON. 55. 16. 36. 3.
SALE. 55. 24. 23. 8.
SARACENS. 55. 0. 38. 15.
WASPS. 54. 0. 21. 33.
WORCESTER. 43. 12. 23. 8.

A few points to bear in mind:

We know that Saracens cannot play at home on a friday due to planning restrictions.
We believe that Exeter cannot play at home on a friday due to local traffic police policy.
Sale have now decided that their preference is for friday home fixtures.
Newcastle are heavily influenced by the proximity of Newcastle United FC.
London Irish, Sale and Wasps groundshare with football clubs.

I am sure you can come up with plenty of conspiracy theories - please do not ask me to run a similar survey of European and Anglo Welsh fixtures - I would lose the will to live !!!

Thanks for that Mobbs.

We do indeed seem to get the thin edge of the wedge then, second only to Bath (excluding Falcons and Sale who actively prefer the Friday evening slot)

This only shows one side of the issue - what about how many times teams have to play away on a Friday night.

If a club has a restriction for friday they should have to forfeit home advantage. That would test how set in stone the restrictions are.

Fridays should be shared evenly.

Well done, lots of good work
However. IIRC Sharks new management allegedly switched to preferring Saturday K.O.'s - probably best to check with their regulars on Sportsnetwork, though.
Additionally, Sharks share the AJSmell with Salford Red Devils (a professional rugby league club) and not a kickleg team.

That's a lot of data...

The London Irish bar takings must be low with 19 sunday games... either that or everyone in reading turns up for work with a sore head on mondays!

How long did this take you, Mobbs?

Personally I have an issue with the official reason for no Friday games at Exeter. The proximity of the motorway is given as a reason and I would love to be able to challenge the logical connections between the two.

I think that Sale are unable to make their minds up regarding friday or saturday and of course they do indeed groundshare with RL !

It took an hour.......

CLUB - HOME GAMES F/S/S AWAY GAMES F/S/S TOTAL GAMES

BATH 6-14-2 xxxxx 5-8-9 xxxxx 11-22-11
BRISTOL 5-1-5 xxxxx 1-7-3 xxxxx 6-8-8
EXETER 0-15-7 xxxxx 10-7-5 xxxxx 10-22-12
GLOUCESTER 5-16-1 xxxxx 7-9-6 xxxxx 12-25-7
QUINS 5-13-4 xxxxx 2-13-7 xxxxx 7-26-11
IRISH 0-5-6 xxxxx 3-7-1 xxxxx 3-12-7
LEICESTER 2-13-7 xxxxx 3-13-6 xxxxx 5-26-13
NEWCASTLE 11-5-6 xxxxx 5-15-2 xxxxx 16-20-8
SAINTS 6-15-1 xxxxx 4-12-6 xxxxx 10-27-7
SALE 12-7-3 xxxxx 6-13-3 xxxxx 18-20-6
SARACENS 0-15-7 xxxxx 5-8-9 xxxxx 5-23-16
WASPS 0-7-15 xxxxx 4-7-11 xxxxx 4-14-26
WORCESTER 7-9-6 xxxxx 5-14-3 xxxxx 12-23-9

Make of that what you will but to find that Exeter, Tigers, Saracens and Wasps have played at home twice between them does pose a question in my mind. Saints to my surprise have played more saturday games than anyone.
