I am happy for others to disagree but my position is that we have the players. Not to win the Prem. or even to expect a top four finish, but certainly to be a regular top six team with aspirations.
Exeter regularly take underperforming players and improve them through good coaching, their system works.
We regularly have recruited players playing for their country, thanks Jim, and make them very average players. Rumours of our outdated training methods show up on the pitch every week.
Our players seem totally dissilutioned, and if they are being asked to play in ways they don't believe in by coaches that they have no respect for who can blame them? Not me.

Removing Jim achieved nothing, we still have coaches and support staff who have failed over several years. We are told that the Gaff lets them run the day to day business. So how can we expect change?
If Boydy arrives in Aug. and carries on with the same group, what can we expect?

Am I wrong to think that. (1)we will not be relegated this year.
(2) things can not get worse....North not wanting to play, if true, has to be as low as it gets.

SO. Is it unreasonable for the directors to get a group of the senior players in and with their (vital) support put the coaches on gardening leave, at no extra cost to the club, and allow the senior players to coach? Players returning from playing for their countries must have the latest ideas to pass on. We may get a strong team passion restored. Teamwork is not important, it's the Olney thing - to misquote.

Threatening and bullying a dissilutioned team is pointless.

The elephant is still in the room.
We have the players.
It's pointless getting new players into a team without desire.

You make some valid points Hantsaintsrus4 but I think the board has written off this season and are putting all their eggs in the Boyd basket

Yes the elephant is still in the room. It is clear we have not bottomed out. We continue, week after week, to offer Irish opportunity after opportunity, they just fail to be able to take advantage. Let's hope that they don't begin today. We are still in a relegation battle until we're not, despite all on here who say we can't get relegated. We can, it's highly unlikely but we can. We continue to rely on Irish being poorer than us. Crikey, can you only imagine how their fans feel? It'll be nice to bottom out finally and begin to get healthy as a rugby team again. In the meantime our rugby "life support machine" is still very much needed.

It does raise questions around succession planning and how a club transitions a successful, if ageing bunch of players out and recruits up-and-coming young bucks whilst a) avoiding relegation b) not garnering a reputation as a hiring/firing club and c) staying competitive in as many competitions as possible/desirable.

Leicester managed it for years but look to have slipped in recent times. Exeter are making a decent fist of it as are Saracens. And let's not forget what is happening at Newcastle.

Of course money is a massive factor. However, the ability for the Board to spot when things have plateaued out (and not quite gone stale) and for them to have the courage to move coaches and players on .. as well as other board members is what sorts the best clubs from the also-rans.

Although hindsight is 20:20 I'd argue that our Board sleep walked for 2.5 years. And it will probably take Darbon et al at least that long to right the ship.

That's putting an awful lot of faith in one man who takes his cues from the same board

I accept that. However, he is effectively the (business) head of this enterprise. Placing trust firmly on the shoulders of a DoR and his coaching staff is a potential road to ruin. Switching sports slightly but the situation at Arsenal bears some similarities with what we have experienced recently. However, their Board seems in even greater denial than we were. Admittedly their league position is healthier. But I've yet to be persuaded that Arsene Wenger hasn't been at the club too long.

Al of these teams are in different points of a cycle. Tigers as am sure their supporters would agree are not in too dissimilar position to Saints and are papering over cracks. They have relied on a strong finish over the past couple of seasons to make play offs which has made up for not a great season overall.

Exeter are at a peak and be interesting to see what happens over the next 2seasons, but you canít compare yet until they have dealt with (or not) their success

Sarries are on a slight dip from 2x European champions again be interesting to see how they regroup should they not win anything this season. Sarries are a better comparison as they have dealt with success and generally improved over the past few seasons
