Bringing the wife

Bringing my wife to her first ever Saints match on Saturday, it is also the first time I'll be driving to the ground. Coming from Norwich, we plan to arrive early so we can have a little wander around town.

So, looking for advice please. Does the Saints car park open early or do I need to find somewhere else to park in order to explore the town? Also, so I can find the car park, what's the best way to find it (postcode for the Sat Nav would be great).

Thank you in advance. Looking forward to my first live match of the season and sharing the experience.

This tells you about car park. Maybe that if you could get early you could park at Morrisons car park for a couple of hours on The Cattle Market. looking around town and then driving on to the car park?

That would also be near the Malt Shovel pub that does a very good home cooked lunch for £7.

Stick to the A47 to Peterborough, then A605 past Oundle that'll bring you to the A45 to Northampton. Avoid the A14 as they have all sorts of weekend closures around Cambridge and Huntingdon.

St James CE Primary School Harlestone Road, Northampton Northamptonshire NN5 7AG opens early for parking for Saints £4 or [£4.50 canít remember] close to ground and good for a quick exit after game.

The club car parks are notoriously slow to get away from. So if you are planning a quick getaway donít use them. But if you arenít worried about timekeeping, enjoy a (soft) drink or two after the game and let the rush die down.

He hasn't worked out yet whose wife he's taking.

Enjoy the game, I suspect it will not be as decidedly easy for us as it was in all four matches last season, and you have a point to prove (well, more than 200 points I guess).

Personally, I stay well away from the club car parks, and even that end of town. Traffic is awful. Better off parking in town - the Chalk Lane Car Park (NN1 2RW) is much easier to get into and out of. The traffic can be slow near the brewery, but it is still quicker than going anywhere near the official car parks.

Personally, I'd park at Sol Central. It's pay on exit so no need to worry about timings. It's on the edge of the town centre, so easy access for that, and then 0.9 miles walk from the ground, a couple of hundred yards past the front of the station.

Northampton town centre doesn't compare favourably to Norwich in any way though from what I remember visiting the latter!

Well, despite the result, she loved it.

Already looking forward to the next time...which won't be as soon as I'd like, but will be worth the wait.
