Re: The Saints
How many other Premiership Rugby Grounds have a War Memorial immediately adjacent to the playing area?
Franklins Gardens does, at the Sturtridge Pavilion end of the ground in honour of the sons of the town and the club who gave their lives in the two World Wars of the Twentieth Century including Edgar Mobbs and Blair Swannell.
Each November, at the home game closest to Remembrance Sunday, the club holds its own Act of Remembrance. Both sets of players line up in front of the Memorial while a Minute's Silence is observed and then the Matchday Announcer recites the fourth verse of Laurence Binyon's 'For the Fallen'.
"The man who offers an insult writes it in sand, but for the man who receives it, it's chiselled in bronzed,,," - Giovannino Guareschi, Italian writer
