Joe Ford wasn't a "fantastic player". He filled in when we had a need and got better, thus staying in the team until we could find a replacement. He had some good games before he went to Northampton, sure, and a couple last season. However, we played a lot more than a couple of games last year.
He has had plenty of time to get over his confidence issues and still failed to perform consistently. We need a 10 who can run the game - Joe is a substitute at best.
Sorry to be so harsh, but I haven't seen him play well for over two years and that's a lot of chances to come good.
We need a quality, starting 10; Joe isn't it. If we get someone in who can play, maybe it will spur Joe on to improve, but if it was me making the decisions I'd terminate his contract now and spend the money more wisely. Nothing personal - just professional sport.
That said (and assuming we get a 10) I think we can get a top four slot, albeit likely 4th, but that's all it takes to have a chance.
