Saracens On This Day – 3rd September
3rd September 2016 – Saracens 35 Worcester Warriors 3

Yesterday’s game was an amazing start to the season, and not for the first time. Last season started with a thumping win over Worcester Warriors, who seem to be starting this season with yet more chaos – a big loss to Newcastle on Friday night and rumours swirling that they will be bought out by a consortium led by Ed Griffiths the ex-Saracens CEO.

Back in 2016 Saracens rolled into Twickenham as double champions but the first half didn’t go as planned. Leading 6-3 at the interval due to poor handling and three missed kicks from Lozowski - not for the last time…

In the second half a 10 minute burst of tries from George, Lozowski and Burger from three 5m lineouts gave the score-line a more expected shape, but it took until the 77th minute to score the bonus point try – a one-man belter from Spencer beating four defenders.

The Double Header has been a happy hunting ground for Saracens recently with our record now up to 6 TBP wins in a row, our game plan seems to fit the sunshine and wide open spaces that Twickenham provides. Unfortunately last year the Worcester game was our only chance to play there after missing out to Exeter in the semi-final. Mark McCall has spoken extensively about the frustration in the squad at failing to repeat the league title, and on the evidence of this weekend’s performance I don’t think many will be betting against them!
