Went out for the beginning of the tour, and there were tens of thousands of lions fans, the place was a sea of red. I think the population, not including sheep, is about 4.5 million. Not sure what the national sport is but more kiwis seemed to be interested in the Americas Cup than in the Lions tour. Historically, speaking to the kiwis, the series that stands at the top of their rivalry list is the Springboks.
Many of the fans who travelled independently were able to buy corporate hospitality tickets, which were the only ones left, as the NZRU couldn't sell them. Aside from the last test, where 'normal' tickets were still available to buy, I think it was only corporate tickets on the market.
I'd assume with the series still alive those tickets will have been snapped up now.
