Re: Ring fenced Premiership back on the agenda

Maybe I haven't thought about it long enough but a 10-team Premiership and Championship with two up / two down sounds like a sensible proposal.

The current situation and increasingly wide gap between the Premiership and Championship is pretty broken (semi-pros vs internationals, and all that); ringfencing at 12 sees either a current Prem side or Bristol out in the cold, 13 is a (literally) odd number of teams in a league, 14 might work if the Anglo-Welsh is dropped but hardly helps player welfare issues.

As long as the funding gap is closed (doubtless the main problem) two 10-team leagues would make for a much more competitive Championship, two up / two down ought to cycle a fair number of sides through and still give ambitious sides like Ealing a decent shot at promotion. Interesting idea, anyway.
