Not sure about the history of this but I do remember being at the Stoop for a final game of the season against my beloved Saints. After the final whistle there were hundreds of spectators on the pitch enjoying the sunshine, mixing with the players and of course lots of kids running around with rugby balls. Whether your, indeed our, groundsman would appreciate this on a match to match basis is another matter but in my view, children in particular should be encouraged whenever possible to have a run around after the game and get close up to their heroes. Our stewards at the Gardens are pretty good as a general rule but our pitch remains very much out of bounds with the easy excuse of 'elf and safety' readily available whenever required.

There was a time when kids were banned from the outfield of county cricket games....this has largely changed now as it was an enormous own goal by the clubs involved.
