Tough game, with a lot of first choice players involved with their clubs.

Draw 15-15 in the end, could have won it but probably a fair result.

I think Albion and Redruth had games today.

Albion played Rosslyn Park and won 53-14, Redruth didn't play.

The Redruth contingent were all playing for Cornwall yesterday, Stalwart. Plymouth Albion have a game next week as well.

Thought Cornwall were awesome against strong opposition. How we didn't win that game I don't know. A frustrating one as we really deserved the win I thought.

Is relegation on the cards if we lose to Herts ?

No as the record of the six counties in the pool is taken over a two year period - last season and this season - therefore, despite the fact they won last Saturday, Devon are already relegated. It's between Gloucestershire and Hertfordshire for the place at Twickenham for the Southern region. If Gloucestershire win at Esher against Surrey then they will be at Twickenham regardless of what Hertfordshire do.
The next two year cycle of the Bill Beaumont Cup will begin next season with one county replacing Devon (the county in Division Two South with the best record over the two year cycle - Hampshire Warwickshire, North Midlands and Somerset are in that group), and the next relegation going in for the end of the 2019/20 season.

Since my post above, there has been points deductions in the Southern Group which has impacted on everything. Both Gloucestershire and Surrey have been docked two points each.

Consequently, it's Herts who will go to Twickenham next week, and, I believe Surrey are now relegated regardless of their win yesterday.

The two year record in the Southern Group is:

HERTFORDSHIRE Played: 6 Points: 20
GLOUCESTERSHIRE Played: 6 Points: 19
KENT Played: 6 Points: 19
CORNWALL Played: 6 Points: 18
DEVON Played: 6 Points: 7
SURREY Played: 6 Points: 6

It looks like Hampshire will be promoted from Division Two - but don't quote me on that!

I'm surprised no one has yet commented on Cornwall's performance yesterday. I only heard the match on Radio Cornwall, but a 50-0 thrashing after two other mediocre performances must be a real worry for the C.R.F.U. Thank heavens, Cornwall weren't relegated!!

You were lucky— as well as hearing it on the radio, I suffered watching it on the web—- seemed more like an Australian opening cricket score.

Have a number of the proven players from previous years declared themselves unavailable this season?
The representation from Redruth has been limited this season and, with all due respect to Penryn and Saltash, their players will not have the required experience for success at this level.

There were six players from Level 8 or Level 9 clubs in the squad for the Hertfordshire game. Remember that Plymouth Albion had league games on the first two weeks of the competition, so we lost ALL of Level Three players this year, and there were a number of players who opted not to play this year. Ultimately the selectors can only pick players who are actively available to play. If we are left fielding mainly Level Four & Level Five players with a number of Level Eight and Nine, then realistically we will struggle as most of the counties in the Southern Group can field sides made up of Level Three and Four players. We've did have players from Penryn and Saltash in the Twickenham squad last year.
