“People may not have been expecting us to win, but results and performance do matter if we are trying build any confidence ahead of the play-offs,” said the former hooker. Everyone has got to take it on their shoulders and say what happened out there was unacceptable.

“We got into their 22 twice at the start and came away with points both times, but after that we never had any control of the game and if we keep making mistakes like we did today, we are going to be punished.

“We have come through a difficult two months for the club, but we made the same mistakes that we did against Bristol last week, spilling too much ball and giving away too many needless penalties in the wrong positions.

“This is the point where we have got to build up some momentum before the play-offs – we need to look at what we did wrong, draw a line under this, and just keep working hard.

“We have games coming up against Birmingham & Solihull, Doncaster and Rotherham, and these are ones we really have to win to build confidence.”
