COVENTRY captain Scott Morgan has restated his belief his side can mount a National One challenge this season. The experienced second row has played every minute of Cov’s first five matches, which have resulted in two wins and three defeats.
They will be desperate to level that record when they face second bottom Macclesfield at home on Saturday when a victory would lift them back into mid-table and give them a platform to push on.
However, Morgan admits that the sum of Coventry’s team has yet to exceed the total of its parts and he has warned them it is time to start delivering.
“I am still massively confident,” the former Wales international said. “It is a competitive league, some of last weekend’s results were quite surprising and I think week on week we are going to have quite a few of those results.
“There are one or two teams you cannot let get away, Ealing seem to be winning every week, but I still feel exactly the same as I did at the start of the season.
“We have got such a capable group but we are maybe under-performing a bit for whatever reason.
“The excuses have to stop now, we are five games in and everyone has to start gelling.
“Part of that is everyone knowing their jobs, which they do, and everyone doing them.
“There has been no lack of effort or commitment, it is just a little bit of accuracy and making sure we do what we know we can do well.”
At times Coventry have performed superbly. The first half in their last home match against Loughborough Students was almost the blueprint in what they are trying to achieve, fast, physical and expansive rugby.
