NEW signing Kerry O’Sullivan hopes his move to Coventry will invigorate his rugby career, beginning against Richmond this weekend. The 24-year-old signed last week after completing a successful trial and, although his registration had not come through in time to make the trip to Tynedale last Saturday, he expects to be available when Cov go for their fifth win in six games.
O’Sullivan arrives at Butts Park having played for Tonmawr in the Welsh Premiership last term.
Before that he was captain of the Swansea University side and was largely limited to student rugby, which is why the Slough-raised loosehead opted for a switch to Cov.
“I’ve just finished my Masters and I am really excited about this season because there is an opportunity for me to achieve something with Coventry,” O’Sullivan said.
“I think, having played so long in Wales, I was getting a little bit stale. In Swansea, because of my studies, I could only play for the university and after five years it was the same challenges. I was ready for a change.
“I think coming up here has given me more motivation.
“There is a lot of competition in the front row at Coventry but you have to be determined that it doesn’t matter who is there. You will do everything you can to get that starting jersey.
“Hopefully, that competition will drive us all on.”
Rugby director Phil Maynard has something of an embarrassment of riches in the front row, with Nico Steenkamp having started all but one game so far.
