I MUST start by thanking the supporters for a great turnout at Saturday’s game against Richmond.Following a week of good preparation and working on certain aspects of our game which we felt let us down the previous week against Tynedale, morale and confidence was high going into a tough home fixture.
Richmond are the only team to have taken any points from league leaders Ealing so we knew it was going to be a hard afternoon. We got of to a great start in the first half with Tom and Heath scoring in opposite corners following some really good patterns of play.
Disappointingly, we did conceded a try from a driving lineout, which is not acceptable as we have pride in our driving defence, so I know “Aggy” will want to have some blood spilt there in training this week.
However, we went in at the interval 17-7 up, and confident of maintaining our performance in the second half. We started OK, with a share of possession and territory, until a fight broke out following a scrum inside our 22m area.
I was singled out and spent the next ten minutes on the sidelines watching the team soak up some pressure. To the credit of the team, no points were scored while I was off.
We found ourselves all square with five minutes to play knowing we needed points and we managed to get a penalty straight in front of the posts.
So without hesitation I hand the ball to Mr Reliable “Cliffe” and point to the posts and over it goes, 20-17 up with two minutes to play.
