...Championship Shield knockout stages.

Warwickshire head for Carlisle this weekend aiming to seal their place in the knockout stages of the County Championship Shield.

The Bear & Ragged Staff side made it two wins from two starts when they followed up their 25-23 thriller against Notts Lincs & Derbyshire by seeing off Staffordshire 36-8 at Broadstreet.

But Saturday’s Cumbria are also looking to make progress, having beaten Staffordshire 20-12 first time out and receiving a walkover when NLD announced that a spate of injuries made it impossible for them to fulfil their fixture.

With 100-year-old Harry Walker watching from the stands, Warwickshire suffered an early setback when visiting fly-half Tom Hughes speared home a drop-goal and it took them 28 minutes to move in front, a sustained ruck giving Old Laurentians’ Dan O’Brien the space to dive over for a try he converted himself.
