DANNY Cipriani has been called into the England Saxons squad for Friday's match against Ireland A.

The London Wasps fly half and Leicester Tigers scrum half Harry Ellis are among eight capped players in the 24-man training squad for the match at Donnybrook, Dublin (7.30pm).

Their inclusion comes at the request of England Team Manager Martin Johnson, who said,

"Harry and Danny will spend this week with the Saxons as they prepare to play Ireland A on Friday. Both players remain in my plans for the RBS 6 Nations but I'd like to see them get some game time with the Saxons.

"Harry benefited from playing with them last week and I will be in regular contact with Saxons Head Coach Stuart Lancaster during the course of the week."

With last weekend's rearranged Guinness Premiership fixtures out of the way, Lancaster has made 15 changes to the squad that shone in last Friday's 66-0 victory over Portugal at Edgeley Park, including the entire Harlequins back row of Will Skinner, Chris Robshow and Tom Guest and club-mates David Strettle, Mike Brown and Jordan Turner-Hall. London Irish trio David Paice, Paul Hodgson and Topsy Ojo also join the squad.

"Ireland have selected a very strong A squad but we've been able to make some quality additions," said Lancaster. "Our challenge is to build on last week's performance in what will undoubtedly be a far tougher environment.

"With Alex Corbisiero injured and Tom Mercey called up to the senior squad as injury cover for Tim Payne, we've retained Dan Cole from last week. Stuart Hooper has been brought in for the injured Louis Deacon, while Phil Dowson stays with us in place of Joe Worsley, who was called up to the senior squad last week."

Assistant coach Paul Hull is looking forward to working with an experienced and exciting back division, saying, "Only three of our backs from last week remain but the changes mean we're gaining a lot of experience. We're up against a strong Irish side and it's great to have players of the calibre and experience of Danny Cipriani and Harry Ellis, particularly in such key positions."

London Wasps lock George Skivington has been given the task of leading the side.

"Phil Dowson did a great job against Portugal last week," said Lancaster. "Having worked with George last week, I'm confident that he too understands the culture and game plan we're trying to build and the chance to lead the squad will give him the opportunity to demonstrate his growing leadership skills."

The starting XV will be announced on Wednesday.

Fair enough. Perhaps should have happened in the autumn. Shame he was rushed back, but I suppose England were desperate.

Let him get his head together. He's definitely the man for the future.

Good move it will be a hard game? (probably harrder than the Italy game) he'll be working with Harry Ellis, and maybe it will give him some confidence back

Nice one
