The Standard Bank Cup
Argentina V England -  Sat 6 Jun 2009, 16:00

International rugby union returns to Manchester for the first time in over a decade when the Argentina Pumas take on England at Old Trafford, the 76,000 all-seater stadium, home of Manchester United.

Argentina (5th) and England (6th) are only one place apart in the world rankings and with the Puma’s finishing 3rd in the 2007 Rugby World Cup (RWC) it is bound to be an exciting encounter. The teams will be looking to get the edge over each other as they are scheduled to meet again in their opening match of the 2011 RWC.

With Argentina having a number of world class players such as Felipe Contepomi, Juan Martin Hernandez and Sale Sharks own captain Juan Martin Fernandez Lobbe it is going to be a tough challenge for England’s team manager, Martin Johnson and his men.

Tickets are available from just £10 by calling Ticketmaster on 0844 847 2492 or the Old Trafford ticket office on 0161 868 8000, or you can buy online at www.ticketmaster.co.uk

For all hospitality queries please call Manchester United on 0161 868 8000 Option 9 or visit www.manutd.com/rugby

Shouldn't this actually be billed as Argentina v England?

Mu understanding was that we are officially touring Argentina, but their union decided (understandably) that they would make more money from holding one of the games here, but as their home game.

Question answered.

It makes sense to call it England-Argentina, but it should really be billed the other way round. It seems as if the funds will be divided in a way to favour Argentina, who are technically the home team.

Does anyone know if the BBC are covering the England v Argentina matches?
