Whilst it's round 19 for Exeter Chiefs it's round 17 for Nottingham. Both sides have plenty to play for but Exeter can cement a top two finish should they win this encounter.

A win in this fixture will guarantee the Chiefs a top two place in the Championship 'league' and ensure they avoid Bristol in the initial play-off matches.  Currently this means the Chiefs would be in Pool B and play London Welsh, Bedford and Albion.  However there is room for movement between 3rd and 8th so this is likely to change.  Indeed Nottingham have two games in hand and could be looking at third place should things go their way.

As with every game of this very strange competition, nothing can be taken for granted.  Nottingham have six games to schedule before the play-offs and have already played a lot of those player's registered with them.  So I have no idea what side they are likely to put out on Saturday.  The one thing we can expect is a much stronger pack than the one Bedford fielded last week.  This will let us see how well training is going for the Exeter guys.  If the pack front up as expected the backs are likely to get plenty of good ball to check how things are shaping up for them.

Rob & Co. are giving new Chief, Steve Jones an early chance to show how he is settling in.  Apart from this there is little change from last weeks side and although it's likely to be a closer game I'm still predicting a comfortable win for the Chiefs.

Hey,

Now we cant lose out on the playoffs isnt this a chance try different tactics? Like stop kicking the ball as much, use that rolling maul more often, It worked last week,

Maybe give some of the younger or more in-experienced Chiefs a run out, This is now a fantastic chance to make sure our starting IX is at optimun fitness, And i am sure everyone is like myself in hoping this Drew Lock can do what he was doing against us, WITH US!!!

Rob Baxter explained at the Members' forum that last season we carried the ball into contact and made more tackles than any other side in the league and this wears players out. The reason for the kicking game is to reduce these figures. Furthermore the players have licence to run with the ball when they can see space to run into but are encouraged to kick the ball when there are no obvious channels. If you watch the game from behind the goal this is more obvious than if you watch from the sidelines.

These last few games before the playoffs are the time to hone the side that is going to be playing in the playoffs not to be experimenting more than is necessary which is why the side has been substantially unchanged for the last three weeks.

If we only had IX players on the field I don't think we'd have won XV games out of XVIII.

Drew Locke is a promising centre but how many of his runs for Coventry ended with him passing the ball or the move continuing? The fact is that not only did our players not know what he was going to do but neither did his own side so his breaks largely ground to a halt. Hopefully we may see him and Greenhalgh playing together in next season's pre-season friendlies but they are players for the future not for the next 4 months.

Interestingly that's where I like to watch from (the ends), you may not see the sheer pace of the game but you get a much better view of "what's on" and a better (in my opinion) idea of "why?" and "why not?"

and the 3rd team is...

Referee: Mathieu Raynal (France)
Assistant referees: Paul Knowles, Andrew Pearce

can't find a ref profile but a couple of reports suggested he was 'fussy'. Here's some info from Statbunker
