Freddie Burns rubber-stamped his potential with all his team’s points as Glaws beat Leicester 12-9, and while the Tigers might have pinched it with a late try when they knocked on with the home line at their mercy, that would have been rough justice on Glaws – specially as the pass that should have led to a score came from Anthony Allen.
Burns only played because Nicky Robinson was a late withdrawal, but he grabbed his chance with both hands - or should that be both feet? - with two drop goals and two penalties.
Olly Morgan dropped out even later than Robinson, just three minutes before the kick-off – a strange situation for a professional set-up, but fortunately Glaws showed their spirit with a priceless win against a side they generally have trouble beating.
Under-pressure coach Bryan Redpath told the BBC: "We needed a little bit of fortune at the end, with a missed penalty and the knock-on.
"I have never faulted the players' efforts over the last five or six weeks and sometimes we may be boring to watch but you have to be in the right areas to be in these games and work hard to create pressure.
"And, in the second half, we had huge amounts of pressure and possession and we got a bit of reward."
Glaws certainly did dominate most of the second half, putting on the sort of performance that has long been overdue.
A narrow win like this in a game without tries is not going to send a shiver of fear up the spine of the rest of the GP table, but it IS going to put a smile on a few faces at Kingsholm, both on and off the pitch.
It’s been a rough few months, but there were signs on Friday night that somebody, somewhere has worked out how we are going tog et out of the hole we have dug for ourselves.
