Glaws skate through mud to murder Sharks

Seven tries, 47 points and a move up to sixth place in the Guinness Premiership – it’s probably safe to say that Gloucester have quickly bounced back from the disappointment of last weekend’s defeat at Leicester. The Kingsholm conditions against Sale were not good, but Glaws rose above the mud to put in a thoroughly professional performance.
Admittedly, they were give a push start with an early penalty try, but subsequent scores from Lesley Vainikolo (2), Akapusi Qera, Nicky Robinson, James Simpson-Daniel and Andy Hazell plus six conversions really rubbed Sale’s noses in the mud and got the Kinsholm crowd right behind the team.
The conditions were nowhere near ideal, but this is NOT the Glaws side we saw struggle through the end of last season and the first half of this one.
As a team and as individuals, Glaws are rejuvenated and while it’s still a work in progress, Bryan Redpath deserves credit for the work he has done.
Not only has he turned things round on and off the pitch, he has also got his own career as head coach off to a very promising start. Coaches take the flak when their team struggles, so let's be sure Redpath gets the credit he deserves for halting the slide and getting Glaws back on the up.
He told the BBC: "We got the ascendancy in the first 20 minutes at the set-piece scrum which enabled us to get a platform.
"Credit to the players that the skill set in those conditions was great. We did not knock-on as many balls as the opposition and we were far more clinical when we had the opportunity.
"The desire and work ethic of the forwards was great. They tend to get lost in conditions like that.
"We learnt a lesson from last week when Leicester were very strong in the scrum. It creates problems for teams and it makes it very difficult for other teams, especially on a pitch like that today, if you are under pressure set-piece-wise.
"The pleasing thing is we got what we wanted, which was a win - and a bonus point win too."
One of those early-season flops that threatened to disfigure Gloucester’s season was a home 35-6 defeat at the hands of London Wasps in October, and the perfect way to measure the improvement since then comes up next weekend when they travel to Wycombe for the return fixture.Meanwhile, spare an thought for the Kingsholm ground staff – getting the pitch right after the battering it took on Saturday won’t be easy.

Re: Glaws skate through mud to murder Sharks
Admittedly Sale were the poorest side to come to Kingsholm in a while but credit to everyone concerned at Glaws, the result was never really in doubt. It was good that Glaws stuck to their guns and ran the ball on such a terrible surface and they got their rewards. There will be tougher games to come but as a confidence and momentum builder you cant ask for more than that.
