Aled Thomas's last ditch penalty to win the game for Glaws hit a post and bounced clear - a fiittingly dramtaic end to a game which saw both sides field some up and coming talent.
Exeter Chiefs had gone ahead just before time with a penalty try to take the game to 28-27. A draw mightv have been a fair result, but that can never happen in cup games.
We had the better of things for large parts of the game but failed to take points when it mattered, as a result the home side were always in contention.
After both sides traded penalties Chiefs lost Brett Sturgess to the sin-bin and the numerical advantage allowed Evans capped his comeback by powering over on his return to the side.
However, Chief's got their first try just before the break when Hughes intercepted and he raced away to score.
Another mistake let us in for a try when scrum-half Dave Lewis lost the ball in the tackle and Meakes gatherd the loose ball to saunter in.
Exeter's turn was next, as the crowd continued to be entertained, with a quick-tap which sent Fetu’u Vainikolo in at the corner.
Yann Thomas then forced his way over from close-range to take us to a 27-18 lead.
It looked to be enough but a penalty brought Chiefs within range and then that penalty try and easy conversion gave them the lead.
There was time for another play, and when we were aswarded a penalty just inside the Exeter half the only option was to go for that long range effort. It could not have been closer.
