England Legends vs Ireland Legends- The Stoop Friday 26 Feb
By Quins
January 28 2010
The Stuart Mangan Memorial Cup will be staged at the Twickenham Stoop (home of Harlequins) in aid of the Matt Hampson Trust and the Paralysed Rugby Players Fund.
Tickets cost just £10 for Adults and £5 for Concessions. They can be purchased at www.quinsru.talent-sport.co.uk (Please note that all tickets are unreserved)

Some of the biggest names in rugby history will be on show for the first ever Stuart Mangan Memorial Match, between England and Ireland Legends, at the Twickenham Stoop, on Friday, the 26th of February - the night before the two countries meet in the Six Nations, at Twickenham.

England’s team will be led by former captain Martin Corry, and will include several members of the 2003 World Cup winning team. England’s most-capped player, Jason Leonard, will return to his former home ground, to take part. Other heroes of 2003 who’re hoping to take part are Josh Lewsey, Neil Back, Mike Catt, Paul Grayson, Mark Regan and Dorian West. They’ll be joined by other recent internationals like Tim Stimpson, Darren Garforth, Garath Archer, Phil Greening and Nick Greenstock.

Ireland’s team will be led by Shane Byrne and will include Mick Galwey, Peter ‘The Claw’ Clohessy, Reggie Corrigan, Victor Costello, Derek McAleese, Maurice Field, John O’Neill, Justin Bishop and the evergreen Rob Henderson – a 2001 Lion, who’s still playing club rugby

From a Quins point of view Jason Leonard, Alex Codling, Rory Jenkins, Nick Greenstock, Dan Luger and Billy Davison will be playing for England and Paul Burke will be playing for England

Obviously I meant Burkey would be playing for Ireland - perhaps it just his accent and place of birth that confused me winking smiley

The good news is that the west stand at the Stoop is now sold out, and the east stand has been opened up.

Tickets available from the Quins ticket line, or the Legends site.

If you're going to Twickenham the next day, why not try to make it an all-nighter at the Stoop?

I got in nice and early to book my tickets and I chose two seats in the Etihad on the half-way line, about eight or ten rows back.

The tickets arrive a few days later and they are marked as "Un-reserved". Does this mean I am going to have to go early with a couple of towels to reserve the seats I paid for, or should I resign myself to having a view of the corner flag if I want a beer?

Not impressed and the club's phone system makes me lose the will to live...

GQG.

STH in LV= Stand and I always stay in my seat until the final whistle!

GQG - the game is unreserved seating, so you can sit where you like. So probably good to get there early with beachtowels at the ready...

It does state on the website when purchasing the tickets that the seating is unreserved - its a pain but should be a great event

I didn't spot that but the website did let me choose my seats... Oh well!

GQG - I agree it is rather peculiar to allow you to select the seat for unallocated matches, but I suppose it is either that or have to re engineer the ticket site.

Apologies - I got the stands the wrong way round. East stand full, west stand open, and centre section already nearly full.

I know, but look at the stadium plan. They're doing it block by block. Centre section of west stand shows limited availability. The next one has good availability. And so on, and so forth.

Since we only really started selling after Christmas, we've filled the east in a month, and we now have four weeks and a day to fill the west - and maybe even open up one of the others!

Do you multicoloured types know if the most excellent beer tent behind the North stand will be in operation for this match? Bit of an incentive to get there early if so.

Although it might be as well not to ask me for directions unless you want to go in the opposite direction from your destination..,..

I do hope that the Man with the Music at the Stoop has located the 'We love you Burkey' music for the occasion . . . just in case! (Sm13)

Sky are promoting the game, on tonight's Rugby Club. They're also sending a crew down to film it, and something will be shown on next week's programme.

Mad Max will be announcing (with some help from me), so I think the music would be his call!

Great night and a half decent game. Seriously wonder who was planning the bar service though. With 11,000 in the ground and plenty of those intent on having a drink after the game the East Stand Bar was the only one open and completely blocked.

And it was a lot of fun too - Mad Max was great on the mike smiling smiley

It was great to see some of the Quins greats back on the pitch again.

Here's hoping it raised loads of money for the very worthy charities

Many thanks to all who were there last night, and to everyone at Quins, who were fantastic hosts.

robinson is still so good. both of his tries were classic solo efforts. bishop looked good too. sat next to a bloke shouting at the ref all first half and berating england for pretty much everything, generally getting far too angry. think he slightly missed the point of the evening. very enjoyable game though. leonard must have loved the reception he got every time he trundled back on
