Connacht have been the punchbags in Irish rugby for a good many years now, but they came mighty close to a European semi final the other week, which would have gone some way to jettisoning their lowly status. Connacht actually led Grenoble at the interval and outscored their hosts by four converted tries to three in a points scoring feast.
Nevertheless, in spite of their painstaking defeat, the warriors from the west coast remain on course for an improbable triumph in the Pro12, as they look set to take a place in the semi finals, possibly with a home draw too. Nobody in Ireland could begrudge this province its moment in the sun, if its first fifteen were to go on and prevail in the Pro12. Hopefully Leinster and Ulster can reach the final as well. All will be revealed in the next fortnight.
FC Grenoble 33 CONNACHT 32; half time: 16-19
CONNACHT try-scorers: Adeolokun(2), Henshaw, Healy
