The final “home” game of the season took place at our temporary home of the Walkers Stadium, with Tigers just needing one point to secure the title of Premiership Champions 2008/09. Oh alright then, needing just one point to secure top place in the premiership, which counts for very little. With the Crumbie Campers celebrating St George’s Day (albeit a couple of days late) with those most English

of foods, pork pie & stilton cheese, the stage was set for a perfect afternoon’s rugby.

Tigers showed their intent right from the start, quickly winning ball in the opposition 22.  Pressure was kept up on Bristol until Vesty forced his way over to open the scoring – Tigers 5 Bristol 0.

This was quickly followed up a few minutes later – Julien Dupuy nearly repeating his effort from the Quarter Final against Bath, getting close to the line – however Julian White was on hand to finish the score off.  All we want is a team of Julian Whites!! – Tigers 12 Bristol 0.

Bristol then opened their account with a penalty by Arnscott – Tigers 12 Bristol 3.

Tigers were next to score, retaining the ball through a series of phases before Dan Hipkiss touched down under the post, with the conversion almost a formality.  Tigers 19 Bristol 3.

It didn’t take long for the bonus point to be added, Jordan Crane touching down, with Dupuy once again adding the extras.  Tigers 26 Bristol 3.

The first 40 minutes ended with another Tigers try, making 5 in total for the half.  A superb run from Geordan Murphy finishing in his 85th try for the club.  Another 2 points was added – Tigers 33 Bristol 3.

The second half began how the first half ended – with a Tigers try – a Toby Flood interception.  Tigers 40 Bristol 3.

A few minutes later, Geordan Murphy ran in his second try of the afternoon – running in from 40 metres, then adding the conversion.  Tigers 47 Bristol 3.

With Bristol looking ever more weary, Johne Murphy collected the ball after a quick line out, raced into the Bristol half, and released Tom Varndell, who duly touched down – Tigers 54 Bristol 3.

Ben Woods then came off the bench – and straight over the try line!!  Bristol lost their own line out, enabling Woods to gather the ball and score.  Tigers 59 Bristol 3.

With many people’s predictions disappearing into the distance, Johne Murphy added to the ever increasing scoreline – slipping a number of Bristol tackled so touch down – Tigers 66 Bristol 3.

Then, with one minute to go, Marco Wentzel and Ayoola Erinle, both fresh off the bench combined to add one more score, Wentzel getting almost there, before Erinle finished off.  Final Score – Tigers 73 Bristol 3.

So, Tigers finish “top” of the premiership, while Bristol are sadly relegated – look forward to see them back soon.

Well, that’s the League season over, with 2 semi finals to come, let’s see if the team can bring some silverware back to WR next season, so that we have something to parade in front of the new stand!!
