THE MATCH REPORT - SCARLETS V LONDON IRISH
By mulledwinemarie
January 18 2010
On a bright sunny Sunday - the supporters on the LONDON IRISH coach finally left the Swan (having nearly lost the battle to get Vic out of bed and open the car park gates) - headed off down the M4 - full of chatter and high in expectation about the game kicking off at 12.45 at PARC Y SCARLETS -
which is situated outside the town next to a shopping complex...........plenty of parking - HUGE DOME next to the stadium that changes from indoor training pitch to the SUPPORTERS VILLAGE on match days.

Here we were treated to HOG ROAST OR CREPEY CREPES, a local school choir, over 18's Bar - GUINNESS £2.50 A PINT!!, PLAY AREA FOR CHILDREN WITH BOUNCY CASTLE etc........................I

Interviews were held high up on a gallery with the injured Scarlets players and general information about the club for the home supporters etc.

O.K. 12.15 - time to head into the stadium and take up my reporting position in the North STAND - standing behind the posts......wrong - the north stand is our East stand - full bright sunshine...........coat off - and wishing I wasn't wearing 200 denier thermal tights under my fur boots!! - I take up my position against the wall - to discover I had left my Reporters notepad on the coach...............yippppeeeee - I can watch the game - except Big Al discovers he had some paper about his person - so here we are - the squad are warming up and going through a routine that might get them through the auditions of Strictly Come Rugby - combined with hat sounds like an Irish Haka...........all looks and sounds good - bring on the game - let us get the 4 points by a win - if we get the bonus point that would do nicely too. SIMPLES.

After that it all went down hill..............................

WE NOT ONLY LOST THE GAME - WE COULDN'T EVEN GET A LOSING BONUS POINT.......................

I am just so fed-up at the poor decision making and ball skills yesterday, lack of game management - not kicking for the points that were on offer - giving away needless penalties - insisiting on playing wide when they should have been keeping ball in hand and knocking holes up the centre of the park - pulling in three or more of SCALETS players to enable a getting a couple of drop goals to put more points on the board................and then when we were ahead - go for the try bonus point.!!!

CONGRATULATIONS TO SCARLETS..................PLAYED LONDON IRISH off the park in the end.............................deserving winners.

Mr Booth and Mr Catt you have a lot of work to do this week. Is it just me - but We had a better defence BEFORE we got our new DEFENCE COACH.

Sorry this report isnt upto the normal high standard.............but hey - I wil be at TWICKENHAM NEXT WEEK supporting LONDON IRISH as I always do - but I EXPECT BETTER next week..............................

COMEOUUUUUUIIIIIIIIIIIIRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIISSSSSSSSSSSSSSSHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH

Marie,

Remarkably restrained on your part after what you told me you might write yesterday.

Did enjoy your stories about "La Dolce Vita". You're not missing Eton Wick at all are you ?

Certainly reflects my thoughts.

Probably for the first time in Toby's rein and in Mike's new role that I have doubted their incisiveness and tactical nous but boy did it go wrong.

As Marie (to the point) says, "Mr Booth and Mr Catt you have a lot of work to do this week".

Not impossible but it'll be one of the greatest days in LI history if we win.

Marie, thanks for doing the match report.
