Tactical Periodisation

Victor Frade lectured at the University of Porto and invented a sports training methodology called Tactical Periodisation.

Initially his focus was on football and the crux of his concept was that football is a tactical game which has physical, technical and psychological aspects which combine to deliver tactical results. I.e. Just being fit, or just being skilful isn't enough, you must be intelligent on the ball too in order to win.

Tactical periodisation puts the coaching emphasis firmly on tactics, as the name would suggest. Therefore, any physical, technical or mental development must always have a tactical intention.

As Wikipedia says: "In other words, although the ability to run for 90 minutes may seem vital to play the game, knowing when, where and how to run is much more important."

Frade's most famous student is one Jose Mourinho, who has implemented this method day in, day out for nearly fifteen years to great success.

What has this to do with rugby?

Eddie Jones has implemented this with England.  He has employed tactical periodisation to great effect, whereby the transition from defence to attack (or vice versa) is more natural, faster and ultimately more successful. The players minds have been trained to recognise the situation they are in (defence/attack etc.) and the body follows, usually to great effect...just look at the first twenty minutes last Saturday.

It's a weakness however that Fast Eddie doesn't pick 'intelligent' and tactical players like Alex Goode.

At least Robshaw has finally been sent to the knacker's yard.

If only Brown could follow him...

I would be happy to have robshaw at li and brown if we had 15 with their attitude we would not be playing Rotherham at home in front of 3000 people

Showing a little too much of your Quin there buddy. Normally your trolling is pretty well veiled, but not this time I'm afraid. Perhaps try again? We all know you can do better.

Or perhaps I am not so moronic and infantile to just critisise players of a rival club and embody the ideal of rugby of mutual respect?? If you think that they would not be an improvement on the rubbish we have been watching for 3 seasons that is cool you are of course entitled to your opinion. You seem unable to accept that other have the right to am opinion which differs from your and resort to childish trolling from a screen. The fact is however that those 2 gentlemen will not have the joy of a trip to Rotherham next season. I can't help but think Eddie Jones knows a tad more about the game than you ever will

Don't worry. No one has to go to Rotherham next season.

I've no problem with you being a quin, some of my friends are quins fans. The problem I have is you coming onto the LI bored, pretending to be a fan and slagging the team off. I guess what really grinds my gears is the fact that you think none of us are cable of doing a quick search to show your post history. I'll give you a clue, it's very Quins heavy and engages good healthy discussion about Quins. Wher as all your posts on the LI forum? Simply slagging off the team.

For the record you're always welcome here, just don't pretend to be something you're clearly not.

Of course, if I'm wrong and you're not a quin, please do accept my apologies. Maybe when the fixtures are announced we can compare which games we're going to and I'll buy you a drink as way of apology.
