Supporters Club AGM 11th June 7pm

The Supporters Club are hoping that the growing crowds at Kingston Park and highest season ticket sales for many years will see more followers of the Falcons taking part in club events & away games travel next season. There is a definite feeling around the club that things are heading in the right direction, and the Supporters Club is planning to cater for the growing interest next season.

Even during the lean years the Supporters Club has continued to send good quality buses to away games whenever possible, even if that means sometimes making a loss, and they have continued to support projects at the club such as new lockers and training equipment. The Supporters Club has also continued their long tradition of sponsoring players, especially new players who come through the Academy. One such player who is now a firm favourite is Mark Wilson, and this season Tom Penny is the player of the future being backed by the Supporters Club. Richard Mayhew is also sponsored by the Supporters Club, as was his brother Mike previously.

The talk-in events with players, coaches and officials have always proved popular and more will be planned for next season. These are great opportunities to get to know the players and coaching staff who are always happy to make time to have a chat and a laugh with supporters. We are particularly lucky at Newcastle Falcons to have a culture where the players mix with supporters at these events and after games in the bars at Kingston Park, many players having said that this just did not happen at other clubs where they have played.

Being the most northerly club in the Premiership, with even our nearest thing to a local derby being games at Sale 150 miles away, organising travel to away games is a core part of the Supporters Club. It is many years since a bus could be guaranteed to every away game in mainland Britain, but with support growing at Kingston Park again, that is an aim for the future. It may not happen next season, but hopefully soon if passion for Newcastle Falcons continues to grow.

Although the club rarely organises travel to games in Europe, it is often still central to the plans of the hardy travellers who follow the team overseas. It is usually the stalwarts of the Supporters Club who bring people together, provide the comfort of a friendly face, and by strength in numbers make the trips more entertaining.

So the time is approaching again for the Annual General Meeting (AGM) to move the Supporters Club forward for another year, and it is an exciting season ahead with Rugby World Cup coming to Newcastle, and the promise of more progress with the team that Dean Richards is assembling for the future. The AGM is an opportunity for new people to join the committee that makes it all happen, so if you fancy getting involved send a brief summary of who you are & why you are passionate about supporting the Falcons to Julia@cedrec.com before the 4th June & you could help shape up support for the next season. It only has to involve a few hours every couple of weeks, and can be as much or as little as you can make it. The important thing is to jump in & get involved. Supporting the Falcons is supposed to be enjoyable, and helping other supporters is definitely enjoyable. Two people will be standing down and we already have two willing to take on the challenge, including myself, but if somebody else fancies getting stuck in then I don’t mind stepping aside. I am more than happy to help out whether on the committee or not. All that matters is that we have a group of volunteers who are all passionate about making supporting Newcastle Falcons as easy and as much fun as possible.

The AGM is on Thursday 11th June at 7pm in the Supporters Club Bar, downstairs in the East Stand at Kingston Park. There is a brief formal meeting to review the season, then a chance to mingle & enjoy a drink of whatever makes you happy.

The Supporters Club, making things better for both club & supporters. Get involved!

A reminder that those who are going to the AGM should send a quick email to Julia Julia@cedrec.com so that she can plan for the number of people likely to turn up.

Thank you.
