News: Saints Announce Burrda As New Kit Supplier
By ComeOnYouSaints.com
July 27 2010
Northampton Saints today announced that it will be the first European rugby club to wear kit made by Burrda.
The Saints and Burrda have signed a six-year deal. As well as providing the Saints team kit, Burrda have also secured naming rights for the South Stand at Franklin's Gardens, which will now be known as the Burrda Stand.

Swiss brand Burrda is a well established sportswear supplier in the Middle East and is now expanding worldwide. The company has signed kit deals for the coming football season with Premier League club Wolverhampton Wanderers, Leicester City and Watford and is the official supplier to the British Handball Association and several national football associations.

Burrda has selected Northampton Saints as launch partner for the company's introduction of a brand new rugby union kit range.

The brand new home and away kit for 2010/11 will be unveiled in full in August. However the club can reveal that the design for the home kit is a return to the black, green and gold hoops that were first worn by the team in 1923 and became famous with such playing luminaries as Dickie Jeeps, Jeff Butterfield, Gary Pearce and Tim Rodber all pulling on the shirt.

"Burrda has recognised the value of the Saints as a springboard into rugby union," said Saints chief executive Allan Robson. "They have ambitions to become one of the most recognised brands in the manufacture of sports kit worldwide, which match our own goal of becoming the leading club in European rugby.

"They see their sponsorship as an investment in the club and its future, hence the long-term kit deal and naming of the Burrda Stand. Naturally we are very pleased that they wanted the Saints to be their flagship team as they look to expand into rugby union.

"Both ourselves and Burrda are very excited by the new partnership. We have already established an excellent working relationship and believe that we can both achieve consistent growth through offering quality products and outstanding design.

"We are certainly very pleased with our new shirt design and think that Saints supporters will be too. The black, green and gold hoops have a long and proud history and our new playing shirt brings that into the 21st century."

Charles Diab, Burrda's General Manager, added: "Coming onboard with Northampton Saints is another significant milestone in our strategic plan for entering the UK sports market. The club's profile, prestige and fan base is an exact fit as our perfect partner, which is why we we're so happy to sign a significant six-year deal.

"The club has enjoyed increased success in recent seasons, particularly in their run last season to the Premiership semi-finals and LV= Cup title and being the only English club to reach the Heineken Cup quarter finals, and we are looking forward to helping play a part in maintaining this momentum and to see them challenging at the very top.

"This is the third sport we have entered in the UK now which has quickly shown how serious we are about meeting our own challenge of becoming a leading sportswear brand here in the UK and globally within ten years."

The Saints kit for 2010/11 will be revealed in full in early August.

I like the little bit shown on the Offy - if it's a fair price I suspect I'll be having one!

so... The Bad Ass Stand.

very catchy, could have been coined by Rich the great begatter.

assuming that AR has got a decent deal and not sold the family silver for 3 saveloys and a deep fried mars bar, it looks like he may have played another wee stormer in adverse conditions on the sponsorship front .

credit where it's due.

6 Years is a mighty long contract - nice to be returning to the 'oops' - already adjusting this years 'budget' in order to get the new shirt - reckon just one pint less per game should do it..

I think the hoops coming back are a great idea. It was certainly a massive hit when the tiggers did it last year.

Let's just hope the price is right, they seem to be selling Burrda football tops for £40. It'd be cracking if this had a similar price tag. I might even buy both if it does! (Sm128)

Don't want to be a pessimist, but would think that these shirts will be in the £65/£70 bracket.

Love to be proved wrong, but am not holding my breath.

In the past I have tended to wait a while and then get the 'new' shirt from either one of the sports shops you find at somewhere like Riverside or go on to net and try Lovell or similar. Prices are always a hell of a sight cheaper than at FG.

you will be right Jazzman, a rugby shirt is a lot different to a football shirt. not to mention its requirements during action.

Nice one Saints.

So can the opposition now expect 'murrdah' from Ewen be-decked in Burrda then?!

That's really useful to know, I'll remember that when I'm writing my letter to Santa

Perhaps there are some in the south stand (male as well as female) that ought to wear one?

Seems the MP for Kettering is not too happy with the deal though!

"o Jim Squelch

o Article history

Philip Hollobone, the Tory MP for Kettering, has told the media that he won't meet with constituents who wear a Burrda. Last week Liberty wrote to him pointing out that, as the Burrda are a form of dress exclusively associated with Saints supporters, this will amount to direct religious discrimination. By treating Saints supporters less favourably than he would treat supporters of other clubs he is disregarding the Equality Act 2006."

OK OK real article here in the Guardian

I've no doubt if they were weaved in a material, colour and style of your choice by beautiful Balinese maidens and you were paid for wearing it some would still complain. And as Mr W says no one has seen it yet,

Its all a bit odd ?

How long was the Rhino contract ?

They seem to be still in business

Still if there is a six year contract that will mean we don't change shirts for six years(and save a fortune) - won't it ?

I think Rhino has sold its clothing (shirts) business to Burrda. Rhino is concentrating on Scrum machine and training equipment.
