RED -   Vivaldi was a priest and known as the Red Priest - I was thinking of Simply Red   - but there are many others as several suggested ; Eric the Red   was an early explorer who went to the Americas. Garibaldis men were known for their red shirts.

 

The odd one out   - which is it and can you say why ?

All had tanks named after them – except Eisenhower.

Santiago is a real city – capital of Chile- all of the others are fictional - you got most of them - impressed that someone else reads Haken Nesser ref Maardam - Mahogonny is Kurt Weils mythical city -   and Deseret features In The Handmaids Tale by Margaret Atwood.   Many think it is actually based on Salt Lake City etc.

St Andy - what a numpty i can be - meant to put Beatty but wrote in Jellicoe /.

Been reading too much about Jutland lately and should know better -

Apparently there was nothing wrong with the ships at all - it was all down to careless practice - leaving doors open - stacking cordite charges in silly places in order to have a higher rate of fire ( something insisted on by Beatty ) that led to flash back from hits etc. resulting in catastrophic magazine explosions.
