On a bright warm afternoon at Brickfields, 1 047 supporters turned out for the B&I Cup against Leinster A, who have held the trophy for the last two seasons. Expectations are high for the home team to get a much needed win in front of their own crowd as Albion are still yet to register a league win in their current league campaign. Against the current champions it was always a big ask to come out on top - but never ever say never.

Kick off was under way at 3-00 pm, with Albion getting the rub of the green with the ref at scrum time and Leinster having free kicks and penalties against them.

10 minutes in Master Rayner was given the chance for points wide on the left towards the clubhouse end, but missed. Both teams in the early exchanges were making errors; Albion's lineout is iffy, Leinster are knocking on and struggling at the scrum.

15 minutes in and pressure close to Albion's 22m yields a penalty, which is converted by Adam Bryne for the visitors.

20 minutes gone and Leinster get a penalty at a scrum and win the resulting lineout. Albion turn Leinster over for holding on, clear their lines and win a lineout. A kicking bout goes on and Leinster decide to run it, but lose the ball to Albion. Mark Koteczky runs into space and makes a very flat pass to Lewis Warner to go in for the first of Albion's tries in the left corner. Rayner misses the conversion; 5-3.

On 30 minutes, Albion steal a lineout then lose the ball. Leinster counter-attack for a soft try by Sam Coughlan Murray - very well executed from Albion's error.

On 34 minutes Albion get a try by Elliot Clements-Hill following good work from Albion and a quick reply to Leinster's score 4 minutes earlier.

The next 8 minutes with added on time are a stalemate - Leinster still making errors and neither team wishing to have another score against them at the interval.

HALF-TIME: ALBION 10 - 8 LEINSTER A.

At the start of the second half Leinster take the ball, run it, get turned over and concede a penalty.

8 minutes in and Albion pressure at the scrum earns a penalty which is missed by Rayner.

15 minutes on the clock and good pressure from Leinster gets them a penalty which Adam Bryne converts to give Leinster the lead; 10-11.

After 22 minutes, Leinster win their lineout and attack Albion's line to score a try (scorer Ben Marshall, converted by Adam Bryne); 10-18.

At 25 minutes, Leinster go up a few gears and put Albion under pressure. They are awarded a penalty in front of posts which is duly converted by Adam Bryne; 10-21.

Suddenly Leinster find their quality and get a grip on the game. Then the kicking begins again and Leinster decide to have another run at Albion's line. On 34 minutes they get another penalty, again ably kicked by Adam Bryne; 10-24.

40 minutes Leinster get another breakaway try through Cian Kelleher and converted by Adam Bryne; 10-31. The score line so far does not reflect Albion's efforts, but Leinster have made opportunities count.

Injury time now; Albion take the restart, make inroads with a penalty and find touch. A drive from the lineout by Albion sees the ref under the posts for a penalty try due to Leinster illegally preventing the drive. Rayner converts; 17-31.

The restart goes well for Albion as they put in a last surge of energy to get a fourth try scored by Toby Howley-Berridge. A difficult kick to the left by Rayner is converted.

So, four tries and finsihing within 7 points give Albion a well deserved 2 points. A much improved performance from Albion. Leinster are still a class act on the field - but a deserved win for the visitors.

FULL-TIME: ALBION 24 - 31 LEINSTER A
