Macclesfield r.f.c. from the county of Cheshire are our opponents this week. They have five senior sides, two youth and ten mini/junior teams, they sound like a proper rugby club to me.
The club was formed 1877 although the current club was formed in 1927 arriving at thier present home at Priory Park in 1980. Macclesfield are one of the forerunners to the launch of the National League system when playing in the Giro Bank North West League, and over the last twenty five years have worked thier way up the pyramid reaching National One during 2012 - 13 before spending the following years alternating between Natonal Two and National One to which they were promoted to last time out.
Last week Macclesfield ran Birmingham Moseley ( or Mose) to a close run thing, losing 15 - 17 to a penalty try at the death in the last minute having had a player sent off with a minute to go and Mose taking the scrum near the Macclesfield line and they were awarded a penalty try in the last play of the game. I don'tknow if Mose are having a bit of a wobble having lost here the week before or wether Macclesfield are in a false position in the league in fifteenth place.
We welcome Macclesfied to Brickfields wishing them good luck for the season.
